Dorkers Posted June 8, 2013 Posted June 8, 2013 found this on the web Wow! what a course! Can't wait to see the pros play it. Some of those fairways are so narrow. There is a par 3 about 110 yards long On the 14th the tee is on the putting green The 15th has OB 1 yard left of the fairway. http://the700level.com/misc/heres-a-pretty-sweet-flyover-video-of-merions-east-course/
dogpoo Posted June 8, 2013 Posted June 8, 2013 Here's hoping Mcilroy can cope with it, he is pretty poor these days!!
Dorkers Posted June 8, 2013 Author Posted June 8, 2013 McIlroy playing with Woods and Scott for the first 2 rounds. Personally I hope Scott wins another major. Although my early thoughts are that Graeme McDowell would be a good bet.
lomatopo Posted June 10, 2013 Posted June 10, 2013 http://www.usopen.com/index.html http://www.usopen.com/en_US/course/index.html Another course overview: http://golfweek.com/news/2013/jun/09/us-open-2013-merion-hole-by-hole/ There is an Android app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ibm.events.android.usga&feature=search_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwyLDEsImNvbS5pYm0uZXZlbnRzLmFuZHJvaWQudXNnYSJd Love the "wicker baskets". An excellent article: http://www.usopen.com/en_US/news/articles/2013-06-09/201306091370801882775.html Long range weather forecast looks OK now, after some rain today. HD coverage on Fox Sports Plus (CH. 152 on TrueVisions), and other SD channels, starting Thursday evening (THL) at 20:00. Handicapping this one is tough given that driving distance and accuracy may not be that important - figuring 3 woods and two irons will get a lot of use off the tee? Maybe whoever plays the three very long par 3's (#3, #9, #17) best will win. The short par 3, can be set up at 99 - 115 yards, on #13 should be interesting. A tiny green to hit. I can't wait to see this course as I've heard, and read, a lot about it over the years. I vaguely remember 1971 (Lee Trevino), but not 1981. Not a lot of room for spectators, so it is a hot ticket. Awkward sticking Steve W. in the same group as Tiger, but better than Sergio I guess. The long putters are ruling now so maybe someone from that camp?
