I am in the market for a tablet and like the look of the Samsung Note 10.1 inch model.

I currently have a 15.4 inch Toshiba laptop and total weight including bag is 6 kgs, so am looking for a tablet for when I travel and for when we have power failures in the village. Carrying the laptop around is inconvenient due to the weight and bulk.

Does anyone have this tablet and if so can you give me your opinion on it please. Good points as well as bad.

Also can you buy the 32 GB version in Thailand?

Thanks in advance for any helpful replies.

I have the note 10.1

I like it and have no gripes. I use it much more than I ever thought I would mostly for watching videos and reading ebooks (especially PDFs that don't scale to a phone screen) but also as a note taker at meetings and of course games

I have a Samsung Note 10.1, 16GB version...I also have a 32GB external SD card inserted in it.. Correction, the wife has it and uses it about 95% of the time...only lets me play with it when a App needs some setup. I think it's a very good machine....the wife is very satisfied with it...have had it about six months with zero problems (knock on wood). Nice display and sound...and fast.

I have had the 16GB version since October. I've never seen the 32GB version offered anywhere in Thailand.

Keep in mind that through the µSD slot, you can add a 64GB card to expand the memory, and probably at a much cheaper rate than what you'd pay by getting the 32GB version of the Note 10.1.

Some earlier tablets and phones (such as the Note 1 and the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1) required the typical 64GB card to be reformatted from their native ex-FAT to FAT32. But on my Note 10.1, it took the ex-FAT formatted card straight out of the package.

Get a good quality card such as Kingston or SanDisk, and pay attention to the speed requirements (Class 10, etc.)

Thank you for all the great replies.

Best price for the 16GB. in Thailand I can find is 18000 baht.

My daughter is coming over in August and can get the 32GB version for 18990.

Is it right whether I get the 16GB or the 32GB model I can still add a 64GB card or is there a maximum amount of memory?

So can I end up with say 96GB (internal of 32GB and external card of 64GB) or am I restricted to a lower amount of memory?

I only throw this in as a side note. I bought the iPad mini at Tukcom for 17,000, with 32 GB and Wi-Fi. I love it because even with a case it still fits into my cargo shorts pocket. Try it! Very easy to carry, and does everything you want, except to make a phone call.

Actually the 10.1 also comes in a 64GB internal storage model...along with the 16GB and 32GB models. So, a person could actually have up to 128GB of "storage" memory if getting the 64GB internal storage model. And when your external SD memory storage fills up just pull out the full SD card and slide in another empty SD card. The 10.1 comes with 2GB of "RAM" memory. Don't confuse its "RAM" with its "storage" memory.

Only other thing I'd say is to make sure you are comparing the same things; typically these come as WiFi only, as well as WiFi + 3G. So make sure the daughter is comparing the same type (32GB WiFi + 3G) as what you probably are for the 16GB.

The best price for the 16GB Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1, wifi+3G is 16900B at Samsung shop in Central Pattaya Beach, it comes with a jacket but not the screen protection.

I am not sure but I always understood that the total memory is the internal memory plus SD card memory, not restricted to a lower amount.

Good information and thank you for that. Sounds like a good deal. Best price here in Isaan is still 18000 baht. Sounds like they are slow here with reduction of prices.

I will be in Bangkok in July so will look around there for the Samsung and a 64 GB memory card.

Yes, it looks like the local MSRP for the N8000/16 GB is now 16,900 (Samsung shops, Jaymart, TGFone, Powerbuy, etc.).

Normally the 32 GB and 64 GB are not generally available here. Sometimes those versions are made available to service provider partners. The base model (16 GB) should more than adequate. Then just get a uSD card (up o 64 GB).

Note that this model does support standard GSM voice apps. (incl. SMS and USSD). The N8000 is also quad-band 3G capable.

Make sure you are happy with the screen. Its PPI is a bit on the low side - compared to newer tablets/phones, the same as the first gen. Tab 10.1s.
