Change from Imm-ED to Imm-O possible?

Featured Replies

My situation:

I am German and 53 years old. I am working as employee in TH since 6 years with work permit and 1 year visa.

I stay together with my fiancee. She is Filipino and stays on a Non-Immigrant ED visa (thanks to Thai Language school)

In the first week of July we are going to marry here in TH.

My question:

Is it possible to change the visa of my wife from "ED" to "O" here in Bangkok or do we have to leave the country for an application at the Thai Embassy?

Does anybody know about the requirements?

Congratulations, it probably will be possible. At most she needs to get a non-O visa in a neighboring country. With an ED-visa there are no guarantees they will allow it.

Best is to have a paper from the school cancelling he study and at that moment apply for an extension based on marriage with you.

(I take it you have a 1 year extension of stay from immigration and are not in Thailand on a 1 year multiple visa).

Sorry to barge into this topic but i am on a Non Imm ED and hope to get Married to my Thai Girlfriend. Is it possible to get the visa changed to Non O here or will have have to go to my home country to do it?

No need to go to your home country, you can apply for a Non-immigrant "O" Visa at a Consulate in a neighboring country, Savanakhet, Laos seems to be helpful. Also, if you meet the requirements for a one year extension of stay, you may be able to take care of this within the country.

But if you are here on ED extensions of stay you may want to continue unless you can meet the financial requirements for Thai wife extensions 400k in bank account 2 months or 40k monthly income/pension. You are not required to change your visa/extension status after marriage.

No need to go out for a new visa. Just change extension from one based upon education to an extension based upon marriage to a Thai. The only requirement for the extension is that you have a non immigrant visa entry.
