Not sure if this is the correct forum, but I figure woodworking is a "hobby" so should be okay.

Are there any woodworkers here? I'm curious what the cost of wood is in Thailand.

I was thinking of making a cutting board back here in the States. I was surprised to find the cost of the variety of hardwoods I planned to use to make a 19"x14" board will top $45 in California.

What is the cost of such woods as cherry, walnut, oak, maple, and teak?

Except for the Teak, the others would be considered exotic and probably no sold here. Most wood here is expensive as it is a rare commodity here. I just recently started my woodturning back up and had to buy some kiln dried 2x2 for making tool handles. It cost me 350Bhat for 4ea. 1Meter length pieces. I have yet to find a place that offers large kiln dried pieces that could be turned so I am in the process of gathering recently cut trees from the neighborhood to use as turning stock later.

If you can get in good with one of the local saw mills, you might be able to have them cut the type of stock that you need.

A little late to the party, but if you walk the neighborhoods surrounding the Golden Mountain Temple in Bangkok, there are quite a few streets with vendors focusing on wood and wood working.

BTW, the Golden Mountain (or Golden Mount) Temple is one of my favorite tourist sites in BKK. Great panoramic view of the entire city and only 20 baht to climb up the stairs for the view. And I love walking the neighborhood looking at and smelling the wood.
