Raid on Tao Poon casino fails as search warrant expires

BANGKOK: -- Yesterday, a team of 200 Tao Poon police officers failed to raid the infamous Tao Poon casino as their search warrant expired minutes before the operation was supposed to go into effect.

Authorities received a tip that the illegal gambling house in the Bang Sue district had once again opened its doors to gamers.

They showed up at the venue at 7pm. It seems, however, that the police might have spent too long on their preparations, as the search warrant expired at 7:30pm. [more...]

Hilarious.

My first instinct would be to say that a copious amount of tea money ensured their "delay", or the short expiry on the warrant. But on second thought, sheer incompetence from everyone involved is all the explanation needed.

seriously... this is professional police work at its best, how can a search warrant for a night time establishment expire at 7.30 pm? are they having a lend... and the deal is they are announcing they will get a new search warrant for tonight... sending a message to all involved... and they complain about pesky tourists who harm the reputation of Thailand by complaining about getting ripped off... sorry BIB you are doing a great job yourself with the support of the Pink Cadillac driver

Why raid a casino at 7pm anyway especially an illegal one in Bangkok. It wouldn't fill up till 10pm or midnight. They obviously wanted to go when it would be empty with no chance of having to arrest a client who was well heeled.

The Thai police factored their search warrant to the International Date Line of Auckland, New Zealand time.

What's the bet there will be no official post mortem on what went wrong ? Not only was the raid an unmitigated disaster it made the BIB look even more useless than they usually do but I suspect there will be no accountability not even moves to inactive posts.

I don't see a problem Thai law states - "that after dark police may enter a property without a search warrant if they know or have good cause to believe that a crime is being committed" - gambling is a crime I believe?
