Sri Lankan “Job-for-Cash” fraud uncovered in Central Pattaya

sri-lanka-1.jpg
PATTAYA:--A Sri Lankan National was arrested by Pattaya Police in the early hours of Tuesday, accused of extorting money from three of his fellow countrymen in exchange for a promise of employment.

Just after 2.30am Khun Sontaya aged 42 escorted three Sri Lankans to Pattaya Police Station. They were seen earlier begging for food and money on the streets. She determined that they had been brought to Thailand on the promise of work as Security Guards.

Each man paid a fellow Sri Lankan, Mr. Sunil Udayakumara Aththalage Don aged 38 the equivalent of 174,000 Baht each to come to Thailand where they were promised work as Security Guards with a monthly salary of 10,000 Baht. The men were taken to an apartment in Soi 10 off the Central Pattaya Road where they were told to wait until their documentation to work was completed.

Mr. Sunil would return from time to time and ask for more money from the men to complete additional documentation which left the three men with no money to eat or drink forcing them onto the streets where they would ask for help from local residents.

174,000 baht to get a job paying 10,000 B per month. That's a 17 month period to break even. I used the word in another thread.......Muppets! coffee1.gif

Pretty easy to judge others when you are born lucky, huh?

Guess they missed the Boat Smugglers 'special' to Australia via Xmas Island.

Another useless and smug comment. Maybe try showing a little compassion instead?

Maybe it is easy for somebody born lucky to judge others. I wouldn't know because I wasn't born lucky - but perhaps you'd like to flesh out your inferred judgement that I was, so I can understand your reasoning. coffee1.gif

Born lucky = white male in a First World country.

You're assuming I'm Caucasian?

You have an interesting, but seriously flawed hypothesis. I suggest you start a separate thread on TV and see how others feel.

The Sri Lankan gentlemen in the OP are still Muppets. As is the Caucasian Frenchman who lost 276,000 to an internet Thai bride in another recent post. coffee1.gif

where did those 3 people in the first place get the money, equivalent to 17 months of promised salary in the first place?
