Evidence that you are staying in Thailand for the purpose of tourisms with money from abroad should allay the consulate's suspicions that you might be working illegally in Thailand. A Thai savings account book showing incoming foreign remittances and local cash withdrawals and/or debit card debits could be such evidence. Proof of your retirement status was probably only asked for because you volunteered the information that you are retired, but if you got an letter or document when you got retirement you may as well give them a copy with your next visa application in addition to the bank book copy.

Well if really you want to split a hair. If you see some elder carrying a heavy bag from Big C and you help him/her,in return he gives you 50baht well that's working too.(it's a lousy example but you see where i'm getting at)

But we got to far off topic.

Actually, Ayutthaya is correct and very much on topic.

That's why it's difficult to get an unlimited number of consecutive tourist visas. They know you are working in Thailand but can't prove it.

Fortunately for the rest of us, they are under no obligation to prove it..

The concern is not about somebody doing some activity online that earns them a little money. It is the hundreds of people that are working and holding a job here without a work permit.

That is why showing income from outside the country can help when applying for a tourist visa;

Unfortunately you're wrong.

if you do any work in Thailand, even on the internet, you technically need a Work Permit.

But there is no way for you to get one, without paperwork from a Thai employer.

That however, does not change the labor law.

So, even if you don't "work" in Thailand, you gain profit somewhere from your "activity" in Thailand.

That would be considered by the Thai labor department as "working" in Thailand.

I know it's silly, but that's the way it works.

For practical purposes, the Labor law regarding foreigners working in Thailand was written BEFORE the concept of "working" on line was conceived.

So, in fact the Labor department tends to not bother small people working on the net.

But, if they wanted to, you are working illegally (without a Work Permit) and therefore in violation of the law.

That is exactly why, if you do make money on the internet, I advise you to keep quiet about it.

Or don't do it.

All it would take is one Thai filing a complaint against you ..... and you are in (as we Americans say) "deep doo-doo".

I have to question your assertion that internet work requires a Work Permit. If somebody had investments in the USA and routinely logged onto the internet and buy and sell some securities, sell some covered calls on the stocks they owned and do things like that. Would that be considered work? If one is NOT physically moving anything around in Thailand and is not doing anything with Thai local currency, I don't think that would be work.

You will be scaremongered to tell you that IS work, and I will be flamed by the envious that can't do better for saying that is not.

There are statements from Immigration officers, published on newspapers that says it is not.

However, and for all purposes, use common sense, what you do online and how much money you got, keep it strictly private.
