Just laughed so hard when I read the dribble above that I sprayed my laptop with coffee, but thanks for the chuckle, I needed that.

Just laughed so hard when I read the dribble above that I sprayed my laptop with coffee, but thanks for the chuckle, I needed that. So you saying he deserved it then? Even if he did (not saying that), what the hell do you care? You're just intent on bashing the Thais, for no other reason but your own inadequacies. Truth is, there's near 100% certainty that the Thai guy was provoked. Thais don't just go off on farangs without provocation. But if you think Thailand is such a dangerous place for farangs, that farangs can't walk down the street without being sliced to bits, then leave already. 2
klubex99 Posted July 7, 2013 Posted July 7, 2013 Incidentally, I do believe that he is using a samurai sword. Another shocking sub-culture going on in this country. There is a mushrooming of 'samurai gangs' in Thailand. My wife just watched that video and her first comment was, that looks like they copy samurai gang. There are many now, they attack people for nothing with samurai swords, they are crazy. It on the news. They think it cool to do it.
mikemac Posted July 7, 2013 Posted July 7, 2013 No klubex99, I am not saying he deserved it at all, because like you I was not there and do not know what happened before this horrible attack. My laughter was directed at you and your melodramatic babbling, not at the events concerning the attack. As another poster said, not much of what you say makes any sense...ever. And thanks to Berkshire, the last line of your last post summed it up nicely. Glad I am not the only one who thinks that way. 2
gaucho Posted July 7, 2013 Posted July 7, 2013 rip mate ...he had a go ..should have run the other way instead of running to his attacker ....have seen similar here in los ...unprovoked attack with sword ...guy was high on something ....rip once again ....hope the bastard gets 20 years ...he wont though ...
Rooo Posted July 7, 2013 Posted July 7, 2013 Can you please stop the bickering, personal attacks / flaming not tolerated. I am deleting off topic posts. 2
mikemac Posted July 7, 2013 Posted July 7, 2013 "A warning to anyone. Do not say ANYTHING remotely critical about anything to do with Thais, Thailand or the Thai culture. If so, you are a racist scumbag."............................. See how long you can go without making a nasty comment about Thais, Thailand or the Thai culture. I bet you don't last long, your type cannot help themselves. 1
Popular Post theblether Posted July 7, 2013 Popular Post Posted July 7, 2013 There's a lot of people that wander in to Thailand and don't understand the capacity for violence, as it's alien to them. It's not alien to we Glasgwegians. What we saw in the video was a prime example of cowardly thuggery no matter what country you are from, lifting a sword to attack an older man. The bit that's most telling for me is when that scumbag comes back out of the tunnel, looks at the guy, and scurries away like a street rat. Disgrace. 6

Popular Post klubex99 Posted July 7, 2013 Popular Post Posted July 7, 2013 UPDATE. My wife just found the story on the Thai news website. The guy was 51 from USA. Name: Troy Lee Pilklington. He dies after sustaining injuries in an attack by a taxi driver after an argument over the fare. Mr Pilkington got out of the taxi and walked away, when the passenger was attacked from behind with a large knife (sword). The attacker is in police custody, and the attack happened near Sukumvit Soi 68. I won't post the pictures here, too graphic. Here is the link to the source. http://www.dailynews.co.th/crime/217278 RIP Troy. You didn't deserve it, no matter what anyone says. 6
NanLaew Posted July 7, 2013 Posted July 7, 2013 The use of the word "farang" is completely stupid and unnecessary, why can't it be said that a tourist was stabbed, or a foreigner? Then again, the ways taxi drivers react to white people is very very different than how they act toward asian people, especially those with status. Because a farang got stabbed maybe? You aren't going to start another 'the word farang is insulting' debate are you? I haven't had any bad experiences with Bangkok taxi drivers so what's with this 'reaction to white people' you are claiming? RIP for the victim. This particular cabby has it ALL coming.
theblether Posted July 7, 2013 Posted July 7, 2013 Thanks for the update Klubex99. A shocking, cowardly despicable act. Now we have a name and a face to the victim can we keep in mind that as is usual, the victims friends and family will usually find their way on to Thaivisa looking for assistance and answers. Mr Pilkington certainly didn't deserve this over a taxi fare dispute. 2
diyer Posted July 7, 2013 Posted July 7, 2013 Incidentally, 9 British killed in Thailand since 2009. Look at the record of the US for tourist deaths - that's worrying!

Not entirely true Berkshire, there's been plenty of examples of farangs getting rolled and beaten up for nothing. I'm not talking about robberies and such. But seriously, Blether, is this something that you've witnessed with any sort of regularity? I mean farangs just getting beat up for no reason? Do you believe Thailand to be an unsafe place for farangs? If I thought that for even a brief moment, I'd be out of here in a nano second.

Can I add.......from the link provided by Klubex Maj. Gen. Masters said officers found a business card that identified the deceased as the customer service manager of the company. Catherine's Pillars (Thailand) Co. It appears to be the case that this gentleman was a Bangkok expat, not a tourist. Therefore it's even more likely that his friends and family will find his way on to Thaivisa. Call a truce please. 4
Popular Post klubex99 Posted July 7, 2013 Popular Post Posted July 7, 2013 Yes, this one act. So do you believe like Klubex that all Thais are cowards because of this one guy? There you go again.... I actually said that I agreed with the poster who said Thais are cowards because they carry (and use) weapons. I also went further to say that 'regardless of nationality' people who carry weapons to attack with are cowards. But you chose to take one part, twist it, then ignore the other part. Which means you were totally selective of what you wanted to refer to, and you even had to twist that. why? Because you wanted to turn the thread into another 'you Thai basher' thread. This incident is a lot more serious than attempting to expose a Thai basher between the lines, have you no sense of respect for the victim here?''' get over it. I will start a Thai basher thread just for you. Lets keep this discussion about this incident and what may have caused it, instead of trying to veer it off onto other tangents. Truce agreed here. 5
vazbslsy Posted July 7, 2013 Posted July 7, 2013 This attack took place a couple of days after Richard Barrow (@richardbarrow) was tweeting about how you should take a firmer stance against taxi drivers who refuse to accept farangs as passengers. Let's hope this 'advice' did not contribute to this incident. A few months ago Mr Barrow's blog was encouraging people to act as 'bounty hunters' and go after a violent Australian criminal who escaped custody at the airport. He later changed the blog after he thought better of it.
Salapoo Posted July 7, 2013 Posted July 7, 2013 I wonder if the English media here will run the story. Or would they be sued for making Thailand look bad.

Provocation or not nothing justifies this and to say Thais don't... Thais do this is proof of it. Thais can be just as bad as anyone else. I hope they get this guy and put him in jail for a long time. 4
Popular Post Jingthing Posted July 7, 2013 Popular Post Posted July 7, 2013 A taxi driver that was willing to brutally murder a passenger over a fare dispute most definitely did something to motivate the victim to dispute the fare. Another example of the wisdom of just grin and bear it when abused by local transport thugs. Of course it's not always easy to follow that tactic as human beings. 7
EyesWideOpen Posted July 7, 2013 Posted July 7, 2013 Another page in the long running novel of crazed taxi drivers.... The Thai government needs to provide anger management courses for these guys, or perform some sort of screening. This kind of story obviously will have an effect on tourism. Or I guess it could help taxi drivers. When they ask for some insane amount of money, people will be quick to pay up , rather than get the sword.... 1
WilliamCave Posted July 7, 2013 Posted July 7, 2013 My question would be will he get of ? I hope the American embassy is all over this and pressures the Thai govt to prosecute him. Like I read about so many killings the murders are walking the streets of Thailand. Can any one shed some light on what might happen to this guy ? Rip 1
