Bangkok to Dawei

Featured Replies

I am interested in making a trip to Dawei from Bangkok and I thought that on option would be to drive up to the nearest border crossing, cross over by foot and hire a car and driver for the road to Dawei.

I understand there is now a border crossing at Htee Kee (Myanmar side) and Ban Nam Pu Ron (on Thai side). This is the border crossing that the new Dawei-Kanchanaburi road will run through.

The only other options are (1) by air to Dawei via Yangon or (2) fly to Yangon and then by car to Dawei.

I will need to overnight in Dawei. The only hotel I can find is the Pearl Akari Inn.

When are you looking at making this trip?

I don't have any info about the border crossing to get into Dawei.

We don't normally encourage duplicate topics, but in your case why not open a thread in the Thailand forum (start in General, mods can move it to a more appropriate forum, this will get more exposure). Ask about the specific border point you mentioned above.

As for Dawei - there are regular flights there from Yangon. Sometimes it is a milk run (Yangon-Dawei-Myeik-Kawthoung and back again)

I have been to Dawei numerous times, but not recently.

Hopefully other members will have more advice

Cheers

I have been to Dawei numerous times, but not recently.

Is there (still) anything special to see, i.e. is it worth going there as a tourist for 1 or 2 days ? By using this 'milk run' you could stretch the trip by also visiting the other places.

Thanks....

Not a lot to see from memory. Better to visit Mawlamyaing (Moulmein), or Myeik (Mergui). Might be worth a visit though to see if it has changed or there is any activity relating to the proposed port facility there?

I have a soft spot for Myeik - it was my local port for 7 years when I was based in the islands of the Mergui Archipelago. Some great history there, and a buzzing little coastal town with interesting people and food.

I will try the General forum. My visit would be for business related to the development of the port. Thank you for the replies.

Hi pj123, please see my reply to your post on the general forum section you posted in. I think your best options right now would be 1) flying into Yangon and then hiring a car with driver to drive down to Dawei or 2) check to see if the Myawaddy crossing has finally opened to foreign travelers and rent a car with driver from there. If it has not yet opened, despite the many recent reassurances I have been given recently, then you'll need to fly in to Yangon.

I love Dawei, very Mon town. One of the most beautiful beaches in Myanmar is nearby, Maungmakan.
