I looked around both via search here, and also on Google search, and couldn't find any recent thread on finding real waffles around these parts...

Every now and again, I really want to have a real waffle for breakfast some morning....

But the small waffle counters around the BTS stations and such offer mini-sized waffles, they're usually overly sweet and overglazed, and not really something you can eat as a sit down breakfast with the syrup of your choice, since all those places are just takeaway stands.

So what other options exist???

For a long time, I'd seen the Little Hut House of Waffle shop near Asoke BTS station on Soi Prassamitr/Soi 23. But the couple times I stopped by there, they seemed to be closed (apparently because I was coming at breakfast time--see below). And then more lately, I discovered that they also have another location on the ground floor of the Nana Square shopping center at the corner of Sukhumvit Soi 3--just next to the Carl's Jr. and Burger King outlets there.

Although the Thai wife wasn't much impressed by their Thai food offerings that she tried, I tried their banana and peach-topped waffles and thought they were quite decent, and very affordably priced. Basically, they seem to have three sizes of waffles:

--a small thin square

--a larger round, thin version.

--and a larger thicker version

Then you can pick your choice of toppings from their menu.

I had the larger size of a banana-topped waffle that cost 90 baht, as seen below:

I also had their medium sized (canned) peach topped waffle that cost 80 baht, as seen below:

The one downside for this place is that they don't open until 11 am daily (and close by 9:30 pm), which I guess shows how much of a market there is among Thais for waffles as breakfast food. In fact, their website mentions that the owner would have liked to just have a waffles-only shop, but had to add regular Thai food items to make it a viable business.

Nonetheless, for a late waffle breakfast on a Sat. or Sunday morning, it's not a bad choice, and won't put much of a dent in your pocketbook. The texture and the taste of the waffles themselves was fine, and they're cooked fresh to order. They also do accept regular bank cards as payment.

Here's the photo page of their waffles menu:

And here's their menu showing the waffle toppings they have available, though their posted menu prices appear to be out-of-date, and a bit higher now:

A lot of waffle places in Thailand use pancake batter, rather than waffle batter and it is not the right taste. The only place I know that makes real, American buttermilk waffles is Butter is Better in Chiang Mai.

UG, the waffles at Little Hut tasted like and had the texture of regular waffles, as least as far as I could judge.

Also, on their website, they say the following:

Little Hut restaurant operates House of Buttermilk Waffle in Bangkok. We offer many kinds of buttermilk waffle and also food for breakfast and lunch, with moderately priced, high quality of food and beverage items, served in an attractive and comfortable atmosphere

Although Little Hut is the best known for buttermilk waffle, it is opened throughout the day and offer lunch and snack items as well.

Obviously, I don't know what ingredients or recipe they're using, except to say... it seemed like a regular waffle to me, comparable to the many many I'd eaten in the States through the years.

Dean and Deluca, chongnonsi BTS, have some spiffy looking waffles and pancakes, haven't tried them yet but will soon. Other food I tried was excellent - a reuben (best I've had in the region 2nd only to that bakery cafe there in Vientiane, forget the name), and I had their plate of corn-beef hash that has two eggs sunny side up and three strips of really awesome bacon. Fatty stuff but beautiful and excellent quality for what it is.
English speaking staff, high quality goods in a casual new york style setting.

There's now another waffle option at the 25 Degrees restaurant in Silom Road in the Pullman Bangkok Hotel G, near Chong Nonsi BTS. Quite reasonably priced pancakes, waffles and french toast, and open early.

I did a quick review and photos here:

This may be of particular interest to UG, since I noted in those comments that their waffles kind of had the firm/thick consistency of a scone.
