Overwhelming yes, but the first couple of days are fun. After that you'd be advised to leave town. Locals usually stay home and hide.

If you're going you should maybe book your transport asap.

How long does songkran last in Chiang Mai?, I know the 'official' dates but thais have a consistent habit of bastardising everything in the name of 'tradition' lol.

About a week I think?

13th - 15th. Thats wednesday to friday. Expect it to start tuesday and finish saturday.

I predict the water throwing in CM will start this weekend in some areas, and go through next Sunday.. :o
