BANGKOK: -- Revealing that US President Barack Obama was keen to visit Thailand again, Thai ambassador to the United States Chaiyong Satjipanon vowed to promote Thai tourism after Bangkok won the World's Best City Award for the fourth year in a row.

Bangkok received 90.40 per cent votes for Best City from Travel+Leisure Magazine readers worldwide this year.

Chaiyong hosted a dinner party yesterday (Bangkok time) for Bangkok Governor MR Sukhumbhand Paribatra and his team who had gone to New York to receive the award. He urged Bangkok to defend the title for the fifth time next year too. Saying that a large number of American people visited Thailand each year and could adjust well to Bangkok, Chaiyong urged the city to solve the notorious issue of traffic jams.

He said the Thai embassy would host an event to promote tourism to Bangkok and revealed that even US President Obama had told him during a recent function that he would like to visit Thailand again.

Sukhumbhand said this award was a great honour and a great responsibility to maintain and develop Thai tourism further and said he would try to solve the problem of traffic jams in the city.

The Weekly World News reported Prime Minister Shinawatra is lovesick and wants to return with President Obama to live with him at The White House.

”The Prime Minister doesn’t care if she is the second wife to Michelle, she just wants to be with Barack Obama and will do anything for him,” said a source in the Thai government.

”She’s madly in love.”

After a few early years at KSU ("The student body consists of a large number of African-American students.") perhaps she feels an urge to get back to her "Roots".

After reading the beginning comments of this post, why do the "sex-expat residents" always have to connect everything with their association with Thailand? Yes, maybe Obama would like to return to Thailand and see its historical sites, enjoy its famous cuisine, and beaches.

"I would like to visit your lovely country again", I guess Mr Obama would say the same to be amsassadors of Somalia, Congo and Pakistan. Part of being diplomatically correct! And everyone (?) understand that.

Except the Thais, just another confirmation of their selfinflated opion about themselves!rolleyes.gif "We are the center of the universe"

Best City in the World?? Give me a break. Who was in the running? Kabul, Mogadishu and Bagdad?

As for solving the trafficjams in Bkkcheesy.gifcheesy.gif

It's actually run by MasterCard and is based on the number of foreign international overnight visitors. London was pipped at the post by Bangkok. Don't think Kabul will ever be in the running.

Here's a Forbes article about it. http://www.forbes.com/sites/deborahljacobs/2013/06/10/the-20-most-popular-cities-in-the-world-to-visit-in-2013/

As for solving the traffic situation in BKK, yeah, good luck with that.

This story is preposterous in its writing and dubious as to its veracity. The lame duck US president has more on his plate than he can handle so as not to go out as a failure. Visiting Thailand would go over as a flatulence in church with the American people at this time.
