If you used Hin (red/brown gravel) the ideal is 14 months or 2 wet seasons. AT LEAST one year. Ofcoarse there is always mechanical compaction.

I agree with bdenner. It has been said on previous threads that providing your foundations are deep enough to be founded on 'virgin' ground then a concrete 'column and beam' house should not subside. However, if you are planning to include a tiled concrete surround, driveway, etc. to the house this will be liable to subsidence and leave you with an unsightly gap or worse.

Regarding mechanical compaction, in my opinion, only a minimum 30 tonne dozer would be adequate.

A friend of mine filled land by around 1.00 metre a few years ago and the builder convinced him that to build straight away would be no problem. Despite all the contrary advice of 'knowledgeable' farangs in the area, he took the builder's word and now is experiencing cracks in the structure of up to 25 mm wide.

Thanks for the replies when I got the land there was a house already built on the land (a wooden house on stilts) I have knocked down the house & got a few trees knocked down aswell, I have got diggers to take up the roots of the trees & have diggers & trackters sorting out the land and fill, do you think it will still take a year before I can build?

Cheers

It sounds like the original surface has been seriously disturbed. If there is any doubt --- WAIT. Get some advise after the wet season. - Say late October!

I will not be doing any building until at least April next year so do you think this is enough time also I would like to build a wall around the land how long will I have to wait before I can do this

My land was a virgin rice paddy. It was filled from one to almost three meters as it was on an incline. It took about a year to settle before we started building. But even then a few cracks appeared. The house is about three years old now and those original cracks are stable. Nothing serious and they were fixed easily.

We built a wall at the end of last year right on the border lines. I specified a strong wall built with a double layer of those small red bricks and a deep foundation. About a week after the wall was finished, we had the land filled up between the wall and the rest of the yard to the house level and up to now, the wall holds strong. It added about an extra meter of usable space.

Good luck.
