IKEA meatballs back on the menu in Thailand

BANGKOK: -- Swedish meatballs are back on the menu at the IKEA Bangna store restaurant. The IKEA meatballs will be available for sale in Thailand again on Friday, 2 August 2013.

The re-introduction comes after the release of DNA results from an independent laboratory, and testing conducted by international quality Assurance Company which confirms that meatballs sold locally contain only beef and pork.

IKEA Thailand will celebrate the return of the popular dish by offering two meatball special deals on August 2. A free plate of meatballs (10 meatballs per dish) will be given to the first 500 IKEA Restaurant customers on the day. IKEA will also run an all-day “10-meatballs for 50 baht” special deal (normal price 95 baht) on August 2.

In addition to comprehensive testing, IKEA expressed its commitment to improved food security in a recent company statement – “IKEA is committed to serving and selling high quality food that is safe, healthy and produced with care for the environment and the people who produce it.”

To back this pledge, IKEA has introduced new quality controls including: reducing the number of meat suppliers to simplify the supply chain, DNA analysis on raw meat and final meat products, imposing stricter requirements for sourcing and processing for all meat products, and more regular and extensive audits on suppliers and sub-suppliers.

I'm not exactly galloping towards Ikea. whistling.gif

Those meatballs are so easy to make at home ..... long time ago IKEA used to produce those meatballs in a small town in Sweden , not anymore .... if was too expensive to produce there now they changed to industrial production .... bah.gif

Ahh - the crabby TV brigade is up and awake this morning - Don't worry fellas, I'll get off your lawn...lol

My grandfather made them himself, they were strange (as I am not Swedish) but delicious.

Never got the idea to eat at a shop for cheap furniture so I don't know if the IKEA one taste the same.

The Thai words for "horse" and "dog" are too similar for my "taste".

Why the picture in the OP shows meatballs with some sauce, while when I ordered last time I received sauce with some meatballs.

Everything's just all about you, innit?

Poor quality furniture, poorer quality food.

Thai food is much better, Thai furniture much worse.

Traditional Thai furniture is excellent but much more expensive.

The pic looks like someone has just emptied a can of dog food onto the plate. I think I'll pass on Swedish food. Presentation goes a long way and that looks disgusting.

Though they really, really tried; just look at the flag.

And these meatballs are made of the one with the rising tone "maa"..... or was it the rising tone "muu" or the high tone "maa"??? I'd say all must taste about the same!

Oh.............Really...........I'll remember that....................

Yep, this is why the founders of IKEA are insanely wealthy, they should have listened to your business plan instead.... because you have done so well right, you would show those billionaires a thing or two about business..blink.png

Yep, this is why the founders of IKEA are insanely wealthy.........."By destroying / depleting the world's forests and rain forests!!!!" Wouldn't doubt some of the shavings are in those meatballs also from what I heard!! Congrats to "those billionaires" Congrats !!!

Just for back from Ikea and I have to say it's the emptiest ikea I've ever seen, I did enjoy their Danish almond cake though. As for their meatballs not on my list of missed food I'll stick to their gravlax.

Time that IKEA grows their own balls for god's sake.-blink.png

Can't wait for them to put wood back into their furniture. smile.png

Don't know about their meatballs but trying to get out of the place was a frigging nightmare. I kept following the exit signs for infinity and thought i was going to end up in either Narnia or Cambodia
