My wife and I will be in Bangkok for a few weeks later this year, she will be 31-34weeks pregnant during the trip. Can anyone suggest Hospitals within close proximity to Rachayothin which have good Obstetricians and Neo-natal care.

I just want to make sure that if we have any worries we go to the best Hospital available, also if she does go into premature labor we know where to go. purely precautionary and we have no plans to have our child in Thailand.

Also, my Wife is Thai will she get charged local rates if i am with her or will we have to fight for it?

My daughter had a difficult pregnancy , but found a really good obgyn doctor at Vipahvadi hospital. Dr Anchulee is fantastic, in that she speaks English well, and has been trained way top hospitals in Europe. She was able to get my daughter through the nine months with weekly care that resulted in a very healthy boy. The hospital was good and didn't see any dual pricing. I've been using it for the last five years and have been happy both with the care given, quality of doctors, and price. Like most hospitals here the pharmacy has too high a mark up, but that seems normal here.

thanks for that, it's not far at all from my wife's family home i'll get her to give them a call and find out any relevent information. Obviously we will only go in an emergency, did you pay for services rendered at each visit or is it some sort of structured payment?

We paid for services each time. I think the whole thing including her being admitted various times during the pregnancy ( total of 4 months altogether) ,Private suite each time, and the c section birth came to around less than 2K dollars. That included weekly doctors visits, meds and vitamin shots, weekly sonograms, natal fluid test for downs syndrome, and much more. The under 45 yrs docs seem to be the most read up and good in the English dept. all in all a excellent hospital and great friendly people. Ask for Ting, the head nurse for customer relations. She's really sharp and is well respected by both the doctors and nurses.

Many hospitals offer packages for delivery, some of them inclusive of antenatal and postnatal checks. You will find these detailed on the various hospital websites e.g. Bumrungrad, Samitivej, Bangkok hospital, BNHHospital, St Louis, Phyathai, Vejthani etc.

Check the details carefully as some cover more than others.

None will cover unexpected complications, of course, that will always mean additional cost, but hopefully not arise.

Lad Prao General (private) Hospital is very good.

We paid about 28k.

Good doctors and service.

Nice VIP room and good aftercare team

(although they are a bit funny about fathers getting into the nursery to have contact with the baby, cos its only supposed to be for mothers to breastfeed...it took a whole day before i got to hold my daughter, which was a bit unreasonable, i thought)

And don't accept their one year vaccination program. Its about 5 or 6k, but they don't tell you that every time you go you will also have to pay a fee for the doctor, nurse, and they always give you baby paracetamol (for the possible fever after vaccine). Each time we went it cost at least 1k for all that.

Almost any clinic will do the vaccinations for 300 baht each, or if you stay in the area where your baby is registered (on the Tambien Baan), then its free at the local government hospital. And the baby paracetamol (Sara brand) is like 40 baht at any pharmacy - the hospital charged like 10 times that!

But all in all, Lad Prao is definitely professional and we felt like everything went smooth and easy.
