I'm afraid that I will soon need a good dentist. One who actually has a x-ray machine and actually worries if you are in pain. I made the serious mistake of going to one in Loei the last time. NEVER again.

Where exactly are you looking to go ? A city name would be a start .

A few months ago I went to a dentist in Korat that was highly recomended . It was called " Fun suwaie " ( it was not fun ) however they did have a xray machine and LOTS of novcaine . It is located across the street from the Telephone company . I can never remember the names of the streets .

hi gary,

i had some problems a few motnhs back and could not spare the time, so i tried one in Loei, who proved to be good, with x-ray, no pain for me, and spoke reasonable english as well. have not had any problems aafter a couple of visits.

if you r interested he is located at the centre of town, i believe the road is called ruam jai, near the corner with the 201 (close to the hospital, opposite the Muang Loei school, same side of the road as 7, about 50 metres.

good luck

Jeff, anywhere in Isaan is closer than Bangkok. Udon Thani or Khon Kaen would be best although Korat would be OK also. I have to drive 150 kilometers to find a farang supermarket so finding a GOOD dentist anywhere in Isaan would be fine.

It probably wouldn't hurt for that dentist to take a look. If I'm not impressed with him I could always decline treatment. The last time I had a toothache I refused to believe it was my tooth even though I knew better. It was a tooth that I had invested $1,400 US dollars in several years ago. I wanted to kill the US dentist who did the work. The tooth was abscessed. The dentist my wife found for me pumped it full of Novocaine and it still hurt like hel_l. He then proceeded to pull it when the tooth was still VERY painful. NEVER in my life have I had that much pain. The tooth was apparently hooked into my jaw because it was like pulling four teeth. Each root came out separately. I later learned that an abscessed tooth cannot be numbed. The infection has to be controlled first. I hate to sound like a baby but at 61 years old I'm now scared to death of a dentist.

I tried several in Udonthani and found only one statisfactory .

AEK Udon hospital ( dental )

My dentist is DR.Duangporn Kroongnavakul.

She speaks very good English and listens to your observations.

She does not rip you off and will offer her advice and her recommendations.

Should you feel any pain she will stop immediately and numb the area further.

You will not be given any treatment that isn,t required and you will relax once you meet her.

I wish i had found her when i first came to the area 7 years ago.

Another important point, she will tell you exactly to the baht how much it will cost without obligation.

Just make sure you mention this before she examines you and she will give you a quick check up.

Again i am very pleased with her and get a twice yearly check up also, i find her very funny and

straight.

All,

I'm a Navy Dentist and been doing it for years. Specialty is Exodontia, but here in Japan I do Comprehensive Dentistry: Prosthodontics, Endo, Operatieve, Perio Oral Surgery.

Yes, an abcess is hard to treat without pain. I usually "cool it" with Zithomax 250mg and ibuprofen for a couple days, then you can numb it. Reason is, infections are acidic in nature and local anesthetics need a nuetral ph or close to one, to work their magic. Also, we use Septocaine, which is extremely good at getting you numb. To the point of only needing infiltration for lower anteriors which usually need a "block" of the whole jaw.

Anyway, feel free to send your question or concerns. It is hard to diagnose without a oral exam, but I should be able to help out.

Went to a dentist for a molar extraction this morning in Ubon - he's got x-ray and is very good. I had a scale and polish and the extraction (he did the x-ray and 15 mins later was working on me) and my wife had a filling and an extraction. I felt no pain (well, it's throbbing a bit now!) and would reccomend him.

He is on Chiangkul road at the turn off traffic lights for Nong Bua market (about half way between Tesco and BigC) and if your interested I will get you more information.
