Why is buying from China so hit and miss?

I ordered my Android box a week ago and have received the notification

that it is in the post, with a tracking number, so I have my fingers crossed

My experience has been very good

I ordered the Minix Neo X7 from Shenzen Mobase Technology via AliExpress

The order went in on the 28th August

5th Sept They tried to send via Hongkong Post as promised

but the package was rejected due to the internal battery

So they changed to Singapore Post paying the additional cost themselves ;

10th Sept The package appeared on the Singapore Post system

Presumably they bulk ship to Singapore for this service

13th Sept Package arrived in my country

16th Sept Cleared customs

18th Sept Delivered

www.17track.net was great for seeing exactly where the package was whilst in transit
