Finding benzoyl peroxide for acne in Bangkok

Featured Replies

Hello, everyone!

My name is Erlend and this is my first post.

First, I would like to inform you that I have done a search on topics relating to acne on this forum, and I have read them (http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/509138-facial-acne/ and http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/18927-girls-pimples-and-skin-clinic-scam/), but I figured I'd make a new topic, because they seem a bit outdated now (2004 and 2011) and I didn't find exactly the information I was looking for.

Does anyone knows where you can buy a product containing benzoyl peroxide (2.5%) for treating acne in Bangkok?

Other medicational items I am looking for are adapalene (a syntethic retinoid), erythromycin, and metronidazole (an effective antiobiotic versus anaerobes).

I have looked at several pharmacies already, such as Boots and Watson (their shops are usually quite similar anyway), and I can't seem to find benzoyl peroxide. I have found clindamycin and salicylic acid, but they didn't seem to help very much the time I tested them, and clindamycin seems to be one of the antibiotics p. acnes bacteria are most resistant to.

If you do know exactly where to buy it, please enlighten me, and all other people who have the same problem. The forum rules appear to state that it's forbidden to post URLs leading us to commercial websites, but at least just give us some clues as to where we can find the retail shop!

By the way, I know I can order it online, but I worry that the delivery won't reach me, because of some confusing address issues.

I will be very grateful for your help. :)

Best regards,

Erlend

I tried a small gel of salicylic acid again, and I remember why I stopped using it... Even after one use (yesterday evening), I notice some quite bothersome side-effects this morning (the sensation starts with D, plus pain in it). Just thought I would warn you about it to possibly prevent it from happening again somewhere in this city.

I haven't really tried retin-A yet, despite having a friend of mine recommending it to me. I still would very much like to try benzoyl peroxide, because I hear and read so much positive about it.

Alright, I've done something stupid... I just simply handed a piece of paper with "benzoyl peroxide" to a pharmasist, and she handed over precisely what I have been looking for. I guess this topic should be deleted now, but I don't know how to do it myself, or if I have that option at all.

Well, perhaps I will just share the results of how the product works for me. Has anyone tried this product before, and if you have, how did it work for you?

It is a common treatment for acne !

If you have severe acne a Dermatological consultation would be preferable to attempted self medication.

Since I asked my partner this morning about this subject I'll post what he's told me.

(1) There's an alcohol-based benzyl peroxide treatment by the brand name Panoxyl. It comes in 2.5%, 5% and 10%. It's available at Boots, Watson and in house pharmacies at Tesco-Lotus.

(2) Water-based benzyl peroxide preparations include:

- Benzac AC 2.5%, 5% (which will be discontinued soon) available at Boots & Watson

- Brevoxyl 4% available at Boots & Watson

- Enzoxid 2.5%, 5% available at Tesco-Lotus

And my partner's advice: go for water base and start with low percentage; apply on clean dry skin and leave it on initially for 5 minutes then wash it off, leave it on longer next time if you can tolerate it.

  • 1 month later...

As Of mentioned BP is available here, you just have to ask for it. It's always behind the counter. Go for 2.5% strength since there's no evidence that higher concentrations are any more effective.
