Morning Guys,

I'm planning to buy a new truck and would like to have some advice from the experts :) Budget is about THB 850,000 - THB 900,000 Must be manual transmission.

I'm leaning towards a Prerunner double cab 3.0 G m/t as it seems to offer the best torque figures all along the powerband. Not sure if the Toyota website is correct but shouldn't it come with a VN turbo 360 NM 1400-3200 rpm / 171 HP? (website shows 163 HP / 343 NM for m/t) I'm not looking for peak torque which is only available at a certain RPM, just on the tap useable overtaking power.

Is the ride harsh compared to let's say Isuzu Dmax / Chevrolet Colorado / Nissan Navara? (how well does it do in the NVH department?)

Appreciate your input.

Tks.

Wait for the new Toyota truck to come out, the current one is about 25 years old and have hearing aid colored interior (which is really really ugly)

BTW: I am a happy WT 2.2 Ranger owner, well sort of, my dear wife made a fender bender in it yesterday, hit a Honda Civic in the ass, very minor cosmetic damage to both vehicles.

Me only a building roof expert, laugh.png rides are a bit like getting a wife so my advice would be to go and have a test ride in all of them as I did then you can sort of feel personally which is the one for you. biggrin.png

My Toyota is now 6 years old and still drives like new, but it is auto, and has a ''chip'' for those overtaking maneuvers. smile.png

Go with whats in your heart. Asking pick-up owners for advice is going to be tinged with personal preferences that may not suit you.....unless I give you the information. I have a Mitsubishi and only bought it cos it was low price, low mileage and previously owned by a farang. Don't love it, just use it. So what do you want to know?

BSJ and Transam have summed it up perfectly. I would add buy a Suzuki Carry,if its for a Thai Family benefit, not yours.!! Cheap n Cheerful, does the Job. Hope Transams Chip isn't a Wrinkled One, but Straight Cut.thumbsup.gif

Yeah, was considering that as well.. racechip.com advertises 224 HP and 449NM of torque for 229.00 Euro's, is this one recommended or are there (better) local alternatives...?

So you are planning to race with this pickup?

I drove a Toyota truck at a dealership and I thought the ride was very stiff. Now I'm starting to think that maybe the tires were over inflated and caused the rough ride.

I'd prefer a softer riding truck. Any suggestions on how to obtain that ride?

Correct tyre pressures. laugh.png

Joking aside, 5 psi over inflation on a Vigo will make it feel crap. I have fooled around with pressures on my 4x4. smile.png

Maybe, maybe not. Personally I thought the whole Vigo set up was <deleted>. So I changed the lot, wheels, tyres, suspension, shocks. Maybe not the fastest truck out there but not much can out handle.

I had Chevy colo crew 4x4 cab top model. Stiff ride compared to my old Navara 4x4. I had my Chevy modified Robinson spring, ozy suspension both front and rear including ozy leaf in rear. Better rides first 30,000 and now 46,000 back to choppy ride again. Never understand that I kept my tire at 32 psi with factory wheel. Could that be aging bridgestone duller?

Same as a Tuna. Bit to high and it hops all over unloaded. Yet a PJS ist that touchy, and a Trailblazer is just plain. useless.

Could be, but could also be rust between the leaf springs, worn shocks and shackles etc

Ace of Plop made a good suggestion. For Cheap practical transport the Suzuki Carry is ideal.

When we needed transport solutions up country we looked at a ATV. 4 wheel motorbike. But they are way to expensive for what they are.

So we bought a tractor and a new Suzuki Smash....but they really need a pick-up.

The Suzi Carry would be ideal for trips into town to buy stuff. Should be able to get 12 bags of super on the back!

I might just look into that!

<deleted>!!! So, what give with this stupid forum? I use a smiley and they say it can't be used!

I bought my Isuzu 10 years ago this November (great truck, I'd recommend one to anyone) and the new Toyota came out the following year, so I don't know where you get this 25 years from.

Yep, the Vigo is only near 10 year old, totally different vehicle to the Tiger. And, some of us like the Mercedes interior colour instead of the boy racer, heavy goods vehicle, grey and black. smile.png

The Toyota Hilux Vigo Champ is generally regarded as the 7th Gen Hilux by the Toyota Factory. Given a facelift in August 2012. Not that it matters still cant beat em long term.. This "All New" rubbish is missleading to Joe Public. The ALL NEW CIVIC,now theres another load of Coblers, their all at it..At leasy the Suzi Carry is all new, made from bits they found in the yard, and priced accordingly, try one they are quite fun.biggrin.png

Thanks Jitar...nothing look rusty down there.

On the Vigo I had a tyre shop open up the rear spring leaves, remove the plastic shims that are at the ends of each leaf contact area, and replaced with rubber ones. smile.png Simple and does make a difference to the ride (I think). Think it cost 600bht. thumbsup.gif
