My cholesterol reduction medication brought from Europe will be running out in the next few weeks.

I can get the same brand (Crestor) here in Surin but only, so I am told by the pharmacies, in 10mg per pill....I am prescribed 5mg. Any of you guys managed to buy a pill splitter here in Thailand, or even better in the Surin area? Or can you recommend a good on-line supplier of such items, preferably within Thailand?

I have tried a few pharmacies in Surin and those that understand what I am asking for say..."only in Bangkok".

Wife says I should use a kitchen knife wink.gif but I would rather go for an accurate purpose-made device if I can get one.

What I would suggest to to go to the Area near the main hospital in Surin ... that is where, most likely, you will find the large Pharmacy and your pill splitter.

I just realized you did mention going to local pharmacies with no luck. Might try the pharmacy at a large hospital but surprised not being able to find one yet. And I used to use a cutter to split mine. Too often messed up so went looking for the pill splitter and the 1st pharmacy I tried was out of stock but went back a few weeks later and they had them.

Try showing them the picture as they may not understand what you mean.

With scored tablets though, should not be hard to get them to break apart evenly even by hand. And any miniscule drop in dosage one day will be made up for the next when you take the other half. If it were something like warafrin I'd be more concerned but for a statin, should be fine.

As said larger drug stores should have and have bought even in small supermarket entry type place here in Bangkok. But quality is not too great compared to those made for US market 25 years ago (made in China but to higher specs it seems). I did buy one of the transparent plastic models here and was not impressed (but perhaps just the luck of the draw). Was very flimsy and did not cut well at all. Am still using that 25 year old US model.

This current model appears to be exactly the same as mine but red rather than blue.

Unfortunately the Crestor tablets are not scored. I also take Concor (BP med) and have to split it but it is easy as it is scored.

I've seen pill splitters for sale in most pharmacies, prices ranging from B60 to B150. II have also seen them for sale in the 'Daiso' B30 shops.

Search for pill splitter over. I found one today on the shelf in a pharmacy right here in Surin....about the 5th one I tried.

Thanks anyway for your input guys.

Actually, on a side note, I'm quite the cheap charlie conservative with my money.

The Doctor suggests 10 mg of something (and I'm paying western prices) I get the 20mg and cut the darn tablet in half. The price for the medicine is the same ... 10 or 20 mg.

Some admire the thriftiness ... some think cheap charlie ... why pay more I say!

Same here. My requirements are 10mg Crestor but he not only recommended that I buy from an outside pharmacy, not the hospital pharmacy, but buy the 20mg and split them.
