Remember the cup-holder?

Featured Replies

In my day it was a bottle holder.

I remember how happy I was when i bought my first automatic. Think about it.

Ahhhh for the days of bench seats and sharp left hand corners.

Was about 50 yrs back I had a Morris 8 series E, followed by a Singer Gazelle.

One mate had 34 Chev and another a Hudson straight 8.

That lot would be worth a fortune as vintage today.

Those Hudsons had a great backseat. I always used to borrow my girlfriends father's old Hudson and leave him my nice new VW when we went to the drive in.

About 40-odd years ago I bought my first car in Timaru - a Ford 10 Popular. I was exhilerated when it hit 55 mph going down hill, and very embarrassed when it wouldn't get up the other side. Defo not a chick magnet. But I was just a simple country boy.

I got a ticket for speeding in my morrie 8.

Told the traffic cop, 'no way it cant go that fast'

Later I had a Fordson van with a little side valve 4 cylinder engine.

Used to burn valves regularly.

After watching a mechanic do a valve grind I got a gasket set some spare valves and all the gear and when the thing got so slow it wouldn't go up hills I would stop on the side of the road and grind or replace the valves.
