    As I live in Bangkok I usually get my visa for Laos exactly as described by the OP. If you take the International Bus to Vientiene from Udon Thani you have to have a Laos visa in advance.

Thanks for this. 4 years later and it's useful since for some reason, Laos removed my country from VOA and placed a new list of 34 nationalities that require a visa in advance.

 

I'm sure there are offices in BKK that can do it for you instead of going to the embassy yourself.

Actually, your information was very helpful, as citizens of several countries do not provided visas on arrival in Laos. On another note, does anyone know the easiest way to get a re-entry pass in Thailand?
