Drunk Crashes Into Motorcycle, Killing Two 14-Year-Old Girls in Tragic Wrong-Way Collision
Scooters are a poverty indicator, a thing that most farangs fail to recognise. My first question here was why are two 14 year olds on the road at 5am? Were they coming home from a party, were they heading for a morning market to help out their family - I don't know. Where they drunk? I don't know. But there certainly was another poverty indicator here - they ran out of fuel. Like any parent I wince when I see the age of kids on motorcycles in Thailand, but unlike the sanctimonious brigade of farangs, I know it's all down to poverty and a shocking lack of public transport alternatives. Anyway, I'm sorry for this tragic loss of life. -

Puttin slime or goop in inner tube
In my racing days there was a ‘trick’ of putting milk into tubular tires to prevent slow punctures, it worked. However, predictably it didn’t work for blow out punctures. In races with 60-120 riders punctures were expected, or at least not unusual. These would often be announced by the groans of disgust from riders in the bunch as the stench of rotting milk spread behind the rider with the puncture. -

Presumably neither of them were wearing helmets, but if they were, they might not have died. If they had decent education on safety at school, they might have worn helmets. I'm not sure how that can't be seen as a positive thing. 🤷♂️ -

Save The Children Urges Action on Child Road Deaths in Thailand
Well at least in Thailand they have bridges for people to cross the road. In Vietnam you're just supposed to cross the road and hope you aren't killed. In Hong Kong they issue fines for people crossing the road without a green man. In many Asian countries the green man means nothing. If Thailand started enforcing the rare places where motorbikes are not allowed on pavements it might be a place to start. I can understand why the Japanese have given up going abroad, everywhere else apart from SG is like hell if you're used to their pavements and road users. -

That's why I said that this would only work if the departments would be watched by an INDEPENDENT party who would have a say on the decision and has the power to file a court case against them. An "OMBUDSMAN" like we have in Europe. I was 5 years ago required to pay a tax in my country which I refused. The tax office treatened with "Foreclosers", taking my Pension, etc... I braught the case to the attention of the Ombudsman and a week later the case was cleared in my favor. There are many examples on how they handled bribery in Europe succesful. I also menionned a public magazine, "Test aankoop", which is fully independent and they have private lawyers who handle cases of bribery or Scam and most of these cases are closed succesfull. That's the only way out of this misery for Thailand. The whole thing starts only when users (parents) have enough of this sh*t and starts to take the law in their own hands. If a school organise a field trip and the bus is not adequate, don't send your children to that field trip until the school look for adequate transport!!!
