Recommended audiologist, Northern BKK (Pathum / Rangsit)?

Featured Replies

I've always been a bit 'low gain' in my left ear, and I've been aware of it getting worse over the last 12 months or so. In the past I've compensated by wearing my Bluetooth on the left, with it turned up full all has been well.

Until today. On a long and rather noisy teleconference I finally realised I couldn't actually hear what was going on, moving the headset to the right improved matters, but then I couldn't hear myself (no sidetone on VIOP).

I also get mild tinnitus in the same ear, nothing I can't cope with, just a high pitch whistle that comes and goes.

Time for a solution methinks, so I'm looking for recommendations for a full service audiologist / hospital department to do the required tests and if necessary supply an aid.

My medical insurance doesn't cover outpatient care so I'm going to be funding this myself, meaning cost is something of an issue (it's not a major issue mind).

Thoughts and recommendations anyone? English speaking is desirable but not essential.

Only the very large hospitals have audiologists on staff and not all of these, so you will likely have to travel a bit downtown.

Closest is probably Vejthani, a Ms Anchalee, Tuesday at 5:00 -7:00 pm ans Saturday 9:00 am - 12:00 pm.

There are also 2 at Bumrungrad (only one of whom speaks English) and 2 at St Louis, both of whom speak English. While far downtown, St Louis will cost less than the other places mentioned (and its convenient to the BTS). Both vistits and, should you need it, hearing device or surgery will cost less than at any of the for-profit private hosps. There is also an ENT doc at St Louis whom I quite like, Dr. Songklot, in case you also need to see an MD. Audiologists in Thailand are not physcians nor do they usually hold a doctorate degree, it is a masters degree program for non-physicians.

Thanks Sheryl, I thought as much.

I'll check out St Louis when I'm back in Thailand (I'm in BKK every day for work).

Today's stressful conference call brought the issue to a head.
