Dutch man robbed after scam

Lucky still to be alive Police were called to a room for rent accommodation in Jomtien soi 18 after a housekeeper noticed that a foreigner’s light was still on at 11 a.m. in the morning. Mrs Ore said she phoned the police after becoming suspicious. “This tenant was always punctilious about switching lights off when not in use, so I was very curious why his main light was still on at nearly lunch time.”

Police used a duplicate key to gain admittance to the premises and found Hollander Mr Franciscus Van Tergouw, aged 69, on his bed without a shirt, but mercifully still breathing. There were obvious signs in the room that ransacking had occurred, presumably in the search for valuables and cash.

Assuming the Dutch man, who was apparently suffering from the after-effects of a Mickey Finn (poisonous cocktail), had a wallet in the first place - it had disappeared for sure. Mrs Ore said that, on the night in question, Mr Van Tergouw had returned to his flat with three girls, one of whom was particularly merry and stated it was her birthday.

The next morning, the three women left but separately, presumably in order not to attract attention. Police speculate at this time that the three women were service wenches who made the excuse about a birthday to worm their way into the man’s confidence.
