Ohio kidnapper Ariel Castro found hanging in prison cell

Ohio Rehabilitation and Correction officials said convicted kidnapper Ariel Castro was found hanging in his prison cell at the Correctional Reception Center in Orient.

Prison medical staff began performing lifesaving measures. Castro was transported to The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

Castro was sentenced to life in prison for holding three women captive in Cleveland for more than a decade and raping them repeatedly.

Castro was not a part of the general prison population and was isolated from other inmates for his own protection because of his high profile.

ORIENT, OHIO: -- Ariel Castro, the Cleveland kidnapper who held three women against their will for a decade, is dead after hanging himself in his prison cell Tuesday night.

Castro, 53, was found about 9.20pm at Correctional Reception Center in Orient, Ohio. He had served only one month of his prison term, which sent him away for life, plus 1,000 years.

Castro was being housed alone in an isolation unit for his protection, prison officials said.

Prison regulations dictate that guards had to check on him every 30 minutes. Officials say he hanged himself during a break between inspections.

Good riddance. Saves the taxpayers some money.

Bullshit, they should have chained the a hole to a wall in a 3 by 3 cell and kept him in the dark for the next 20 years.

This guy knew that he wouldn't have lasted a week in prison. People would have been standing in line to take him out. Looks like he decided suicide as a better option than being ripped apart by sharp objects. Seems as if he dodged responsibility for his insanely grotesque crimes, but the world is undoubtedly a better place with his departure.

My sentiments entirely. He had his day in court, was convicted so I'm happy and, may his soul rest in hell.
