So you normally use the rabbit card. You're asking if you can use the rabbit card on the BTS ?

I don't completely understand the question, what have you been usng the Rabbit card for until now ?

I load mine up in the BTS station and use it on the BTS, well at least I did the last time I went to Bangkok which was a couple of months ago.

One small thing to remember. When you have money value and stored trips on your card. The stored trips will always be used before any value in money. Important to remember if taking a short hop.

Money is good always it will remain there untill you want to use it or they change the card system again.

Trips. The count down of 30 days starts from the point you use the first trip and not the day you buy/topup.

Not true.

The stored money is good for two years from date of top-up. After 2 years you lose it if unused.

Yes, once your trips are finished you can use the Stored Value to travel on the BTS.

@ukrules

The Rabbit can hold both BTS trips and stored value at the same time. The system will by default use the trip balance for BTS travel until it is exhausted.

What is considered a "trip"? What kind of trip packages can you buy? I bought the rabbit card thinking it was some kind of a discount, but was a bit confused over the stored value vs trips after the fact.

All trip packages come in the form of "n trips within 30 days" at an increasing discount for higher number of trips.

30-Day Pass for Adults
- For 15 trips (use within 30 days), 25 baht per trip unlimited distance, it costs 375 baht.
- For 25 trips (use within 30 days), 23 baht per trip unlimited distance, it costs 575 baht.
- For 40 trips (use within 30 days), 21 baht per trip unlimited distance, it costs 840 baht.
- For 50 trips (use within 30 days), 20 baht per trip unlimited distance, it costs 1,000 baht.

Also if you use stored value, you will get the 'old' price on regular trips until the end of the year. (around 2B discount a trip)

Trips = one journey between any two BTS stations.

Trips can be a lot cheaper if you travel a long distance and buy the largest package (50) trips.

50 trips costs 1100 baht, which is 22 baht each. You can also buy 10 trips, 20 trips, etc, with the discount scaling down.

To give you an example: I travel a distance of 7 stations twice a day, five times a week for work.

Paying stored value would cost me 37 for each trip (370 baht a week, 1480 a month).

Paying with rabbit 50 trips costs me 22 baht each trip (220 a week, 880 a month).

So I'm saving 600 baht every 4 weeks by using trips rather than stored money. 7200 a year!

Shorter distance save less money, longer distances more. And remember trips run out after 30 days.

Ok. I also found this link http://www.bts.co.th/customer/en/16-rabbitcard.aspx , and along with the faq it makes more sense now. I wanted to do the trip thing, but there was no adequate explanation when I got the card the options, so I just did the stored value option the first time.

It turns out that you still need some stored value if you want to take the extended Sukumvit line for extra 10 baht deduction + 1 trip.

- Where, besides the BTS station cashier, can you add stored value and/or trips to rabbit card? I've spent it at a couple of nearby places around BTS station, but where else to buy trips? Sometimes the stations cashiers can be full with a long line of people looking to make change.

- Can you take funds directly from rabbit card stored value and purchase trips?

Once you put the money on, all you can do with it is either use it, or buy things at mcdolads etc with it. There is no "getting it back" as far as I know, except for the deposit maybe.

I don't like waiting in the lines either. I usually have two options when I need a fill up...... immediately after my trips are finished, I hop to the cashier if there is nobody in line. If there is a long line, I wait until the next time I use it and fill it then. This last method is actually preferred because you will get the extra day(s) you didn't use the bts, correct? Having to wait in line outweighs this for me though, I would rather just fill up when there is no line no matter what. I usually get it to where one of those does not have a line smile.png, but it's obviously not a perfect system. A question I have relates to the days the 30 day trips are valid for. I could have sworn a couple of times I calculated the date my 30 days should be over, and sometimes it includes the day you purchased as one day, sometimes it doesn't. Could it be that after a certain time everyday they don't count that as a day anymore? Small point, but I swear i think that is true, like if you buy trips in the morning vs afternoon you may get a different expiry date.

The cashier are the only place i have found to fill up.

This thread has good info in it. The only last thing I will reiterate is that if you pay close attention, many times your short trips will be more costly than paying the fare. I just reach down and grab some patience in these instances, and get the change and get a ticket like all the other suckers :)

Hi, 30 days start count down from the use of the 1st trip.

So buy trips on the 1st and use a trip on the first your trips expire on 30th.

Buy on the 1st and use on the 2nd you trips will expire on the 31st or the 1st depending in the month.

Btw you can always see your expire date on the screen at the bottom when you swipe through to exit bts station.

As for return of unused credit. They say in the engilish version of their terms and conditions (available in pdf online) that it is possible to refund however certain conditions apply.

Thr conditions seem to be based around exipired and unexpired cards. They difine an expired card as over 2 years since its last use. So under the right circumstances they say its possible. However in practice im not sure.

Just for the record the life of a rabbit card is given as 5 years here.

Did not know this. That makes sense. I always thought the day you bought it was the deciding factor. Thanks :)
