Define Friendship

Easy enough I think. What is friendship to you? What is a friend? How would you define either?

Since you're twisting my arm . . . and it hurts . . . friendship to me is mutual respect, mutual regard, mutual love, and sharing one another's wifes. :D

Good answer, Bops, my friend. :D

I'm not married.

If I had to describe it, I say to a lot of my best friends that, "I'd jump under a bus for you but, I'll not make you a cup o tea".

That may sound strange but, not if you think about it a while. My friends are in my house, they should feel comfortable to make themselves at home. It may be a bad analogy, it works for me and, people who know me understand what it means,. :o

Looks like thaibebop and Tippaporn are bonding, beginnings of friendship. :o

Ahhhh, true friendship. <deleted> the respect, regard and love thingies though..... :D

Good one Red, not a bad analogy at all.

As for my thoughts, i think it's difficult to define. It's more of a "Gut feel" thing and has no time frame. It's when someone moves from the category of "aquaintance" to being a "friend". Some of my very good friends, i have known for a long time but some i haven't known for that long. On the other hand i have "aquaintences" that i have known for ages but somehow i don't consider them a friend. Maybe i don't trust them 150% like i do my friends. Did that make sense :o:D

Here's one aspect of friendship which I think all can agree on. You might not have contact with each other for years but once resumed it's as if not a day has passed. :o

that is a good one tip. A true freindship for me isn't how often a week you see each other, it's when you haven't seen each for an age but know you can still call when your in trouble & they'll drop everything to help you.

I was once considering moving to San Fran back towards the end of the 80's but didn't make the move. The time frame coincided with the nasty earthquake that collapsed a few of the double decker bridges in the area and the earthquake resulted in quite a bit of lost life. I was touched to hear through a mutual friend that one of my long time friend's in Colorado, whom I had lost contact with years earlier, had been frantically trying to contact me because he thought I had made the move. He was concerned about my welfare. That's friendship. :D

same when the tsunami hit, we hadn't lived in thailand for nearly a year but friends were calling to make sure anyone I knew was ok & that my husbands family (who they have never met) weren't affected (they live in issan, I never said my mates were clever people :o) Also during the london bombings last year nearly everyone I know in Thailand were texting me & emailing within an hour of the bombs going off to make sure I was ok (I work in the city so was right in the middle of it all). Things like that are so important.

I must also mention that I got a lot of pms from people on thaivisa during the london bombings & that was so wonderful to know that even though we hadn't met, we had a connection & I was being thought of :o
