PM asked to help detained Veera

BANGKOK, 18 September 2013 (NNT) - Prime Minister and Minister of Defense Yingluck Shinawatra has been asked by the family of Mr. Veera Somkwamkid to help secure his release or a reduced jail term after he has been detained in Cambodia for nearly 3 years.

Mr. Veera’s wife, Ampai Somkwamkid, handed a letter to Prime Minister Yingluck, asking the government to speed up the assistance process. According to Mrs. Ampai, Mr. Veera was not in good health. She asked Miss Yingluck to request the Cambodian government to grant either an amnesty, or a reduced jail term or to put him under a prisoner exchange program, in order to allow Mr. Veera to come home.

Mrs. Ampai said she believed the existing friendship between Prime Minister Yingluck and Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen and the close relations between the 2 countries, would bring one of her wishes to come true.

Mr. Veera was among the seven Thai politicians and activists charged with illegal entry after crossing into a disputed border area in 2010.

Classic – Preah V temple became an issue when the Yellows tried to use it to whip up nationalism to help defeat the Reds

Now they have to ask the head red, to free the Yo Yo;s

This makes a much sense as when they tried to get Obama to put in a good word, and get the yo-yo's released. After the people making the request, had got the NASA Climate change program scuppered by whipping up nationalist sentiment by claiming it was spy mission.

In ways I have to admire their audacity even if I can’t help but laugh at their willful ignorance

"The two were among seven Thai politicians and activists charged with illegal entry after crossing into a disputed border area"

So what is the big fuzz about, did he hurt somebody with bodily harm?

If you plan to do so as a Bomb maker, plotter and kill dozens of people, you get only, 2 years 8 month and will sit probably only 1,5 years really. blink.png

Well there is definatly a difference between the two crimes. The red shirts were in Thailand trying to get a coup.

The Yellow shirts were illegally in Cambodia trying to start a war.

Do you often compare oranges to apples?

This is a case where one country (Cambodia) imposed a legal penalty.

Where as the other imposed a lenient one because they were secretly in the open supporting the bomb maker.

I wouldn't hold up any decisions in Thailand as representing some kind of superior legal judgement.

Here you get 18 years as a pensioner for sending an SMS, but get to run away after murdering a copper.

Did I mention the RED shirts? Maybe read the LINK first. tongue.png

=Do you often get confused?=

Anyway

7 people walked across a border where the border line is disputed, 5 went home in short and two got 8 years for spying. blink.png

Dumb people, but 8 years for that?

And your accusation regarding the intention of starting a war, is for me far fetched. 7 yellow shirts produce not so easy and fast a war with a little border walk.

You saw the outcome!

"The red shirts were in Thailand trying to get a coup" - Do you honestly, really believe that?

Oh and by the way the the second source is about a swedish/lebanese citizen found guilty of having the materials to make a bomb. How much further you can get from the UDD I'm not sure but nice try.

Not so much apples and oranges as hedge clipper and space capsule as far as relevance goes.

My mistake. it was swedish/lebanese citizen's. Yes I do believe the red shirts were trying for a coup. What do y6ou thionk they were trying to do?

On thinking it over Yingluck owes them big time. She should plead for there release. If it hadn't been for the yellow shirts refusal to vote she would still be PM but not with a majority Government.

Yes I do believe they were trying to start a war. They knew where they were and had been advocating for war. What other reason would they have for going there knowing it was Cambodian soil. They had no camping gear so it couldn't have been for that.

Maybe it's just about a Thai lady wanting her husband to come home.
