Backup Help

Featured Replies

I am using Windows 7 and have attempted a backup to my external WD "F" hard drive three times.

Each time I get the pop-up saying: "Backup skipped backing up F:\Documents as it is on the backup target."

I have read different sites including Microsoft to see if there is an explanation. They do mention the problem and I have made some changes, with no effect.

I did have a "Documents" folder on "F" and "C" drives so I shifted it off "F" so there is not a "Documents" folder there now.

I have renamed some folders thinking that may be the problem, still no change.

Any suggestions to rectify the problem would be gratefully received.

You may have created folder-redirects in your 'Libraries', ergo the circular reference message.

To check, right-click on any Library icon ( Windows 'File' Explorer under 'Libraries' i.e.: Documents, Music, Pictures, Recorded TV, Videos, etc)
Select 'Properties' and view the 'Library' tab. This will show what drive Folders are being included.

For instance, I have included a Video Folder from my C: drive, the Download folder from my D: drive and another Video folder from my V: drive under the VIDEOS Library icon so I don't have to go hunting for where my several apps that download things have now decided to use for storage.

Wow, the backup just completed.

There was a folder in Libraries, "F:\Documents(Empty)", I deleted it. I assume that must have been what the problem was.

So frustrating when you get these problems and cannot find the answer. Nice feeling when you succeed.

Thanks for your help.
