Was with a friend tonight that looks younger than his age of 73, I would like to know if an age difference of 56 years in a male/female relationship will work?

It would be abominable in my opinion and he was surprised by the looks on the street directed at him whilst walking with a 16+/- yr old.. After explaining the Laws concerning age of consent which he chose to ignore, himself having been in Thai on and off since the Vietnam days.

Being unaware of the laws my friend was adamant that the age of consent is 15.

After explaining the laws pertaining to Thai law re:underage partners, he was in complete indifference.

It is 15, assuming the parents don't object and approve of the relationship.

Would be good to get that cemented through a village ceremony with some pictures, etc. Either way that's a self-resolving problem in a year or two.

If I was 73 I'd be well past the age where I'd care about anyone elses idea of good or bad, and enjoy whatever time I had left.

A 15 or 16 year old Thai girl will look like a 12 year old, I'm sorry but this old man is another glitter or saville.

My main point to him that was the age of consent in Thai is 18 (ambiguous law) and he may get extorted or deported.

In America, each state has it's own age of consent. Some are as low as 16. I don't think it's a federal beef. Link

Edit. I do think that if an American violates the age of consent in a foreign country, it's a federal beef and he will probably be extradited for prosecution.

So because it is the law you are going to abide by it Does that mean you are going to go out and grab a 16 year old?

It happens but I see no reason to condone it legal or illegal. How ever if in fact it is the difference between lifee and death for the girl I would not be so strong against it. Personally I would rather just give her money in that case.

A friend in my village is 77 and the TW is 32 .45 years age difference .It works for them but a 15 year old is just a child .

I think one poster nailed it. It doesn't matter what the law is here (although WTK explained the situation well in post #2), if he ever goes back to a country like the USA, Germany, U.K., Australia - (I think), and a number of others who signed on, he will be prosecuted if they know about it.

There was a show on TV a few years ago about this. They showed a number of guys being nabbed getting off the airplanes as they returned home from trips to Thailand and Cambodia were they had been with minors.

The law is 18 for Americans traveling abroad. I just saw a guy get 13 years for doin' a 14 yo, he could have got probation if she had been 15. He was 23 at the time of the crime. Saw a 27 yo teacher get 4 years for a 17 yo student. Saw a 21 yo get two years for 465 pounds of mary J..

worst case scenario for Americans when they return home if they were caught smoking a cigarette in a one-way street on a sunday morning. they have to expect 369 years, one life sentence without parole plus 85 hours of community service.

80 with an 18 is fine; if she is a day under 18, it is a felony (for Americans). BTW, age of consent is 12 in Mexico, but don't think for a minute you wouldn't get prosecuted in the States.

Come on... 16 is way too young for pretty much anyone other than maybe another 16 year old. It's not right IMO, she's just a child.

That sounds right as I recall it is what was said on the TV documentary I saw. And the same law applies to citizens of Germany, the U.K., I think Australia, and a few other countries which I forget now. It does not matter what the laws are in the country the citizen of those countries committed the act. They will be prosecuted under this International law which has been in effect for about 7 or more years now.

And if people think no one will know, be assured someone is watching. With all this high tech surveillance now, the above countries know [almost] everything. Certainly in a place like Thailand, Cambodia, etc. there are countless spies getting rewarded for tipping off the authorities. On the documentary, the German Doctor (150 kg.) had the most surprised look on his face (like he was certain that he had covered all of his tracks in Cambodia) when the German federal authorities and camera crew were waiting for him to deplane in Frankfurt.

I have always felt that you can estimate the mental age of many Thais if you take their chronological age, divide by 2 then subtract 5. This works for those over the age of 12. Of course there are exceptions, but this is not about the exceptions. Anyone who has dated a very young Thai woman (e.g., under 30) may wish to test the formula.

I think id go crazy from her playing with her mobile and checking her facebook every 4 seconds, taking selfies with a puffy face
