PHUKET, Oct 9 – Phuket international airport is expecting at least 30,000 passengers per day during the coming high season, starting late this month, according to the Airports of Thailand (AoT).

AoT acting president Pongsak Semson said the new terminal, to be in use in January, would relieve congestion at the airport, which has been receiving more than 10 million passengers annually and that the number will possibly rise to at least 20 million people in 2015-2016.

Prathuang Sornkhom, general manager of Phuket International Airport, said the facility received 10.9 million passengers in the 2013 fiscal year, representing a 33 per cent increase, and 70,198 flights or 27.38 per cent higher year-on-year.

About 200 flights and over 30,000 passengers currently arrive at Phuket airport daily and the number will increase to 215-220 flights during the high season, he said.

Phuket airport made Bt4 billion revenue, a Bt2 billion profit, in the 2013 fiscal year, and it is forecast that the number of passengers passing through the airport will reach 11 million people by the year end, he said. (MCOT online news)

The signage for the bus service isn't though.......the Airport has a duty to ensure that passengers can find the buses and get to them unchallenged by aggressive taxi drivers. It can't be that hard or expensive to put signs up, the fact that they told the operator that he would need to wait until the revamp in 2015 shows that they are still in cahoots with the taxi mafia.

That's a nice revenue stream and sweet margins, even after "expenses". I wonder why they can't afford an airport bus sign with this much profit?

I have to wonder - Bt 4 billion revenue, gives a Bt 2 billion profit. This is not the typical business model. Makes no sense to me.

Hard to tell whether that's good news or bad news.

The 4 billion comes from departure tax which is pure profit. However the airport authorities have to skim half off the top to pay for their mercs and giks. Thus the quoted profit of 2 billion.

That will drop drastically with the safety reputation for Holliday makers, I hope so and let's see what they say for the reason. The taxi and Tuk Tuk guys will have their preserved spaces protected for sure.

I would not go to Phuket for a big clock I hate the place.

What's the more important ? Number of tourists arriving in Phuket or 1/3 of the country under heavy floods .... The little consideration those people have for the flood victims are outrageous .

And so are the black taxis.......
