Number of newly-registered businesses totals 5,622 in Sept

BANGKOK, 11 October 2013 (NNT) – The Commerce Ministry has revealed that the number of new businesses registering in September rose to 5,622, a 3 percent increase year-on-year.


According to Deputy Commerce Minister Nattawut Saikua, 5,622 business operators registered with the ministry in the month of September. Despite its 3 percent rise year-on-year, the figure accounted for an 11 percent drop compared to the previous month's figure. However, the deputy minister said the rate was normal.

The top 5 newly-registered businesses, according to the Mr. Nattawut, are construction, real estate, machinery, travel, and pharmaceutical companies; with the combined registered capital of 18.3 billion baht.

Meanwhile, 1,450 businesses, mostly construction companies whose projects had been completed, shut their doors in September, said the deputy minister.

Several Russian tourists injured in bus crash in Thailand

KANCHANABURI: -- A bus carrying 42 Russian tourists overturned in the Kanchanaburi province in northwest Thailand at around noon local time (9:00 Moscow Time, 05:00 GMT). Andrei Dvornikov, head of the consular department of the Russian embassy in Thailand, confirmed the report.

'Magic doctor' Sommai passes away at 93
The Nation

SING BURI -- Doctor Sommai Thongprasert, who was called a "magic doctor" for having cured terminal cancer patients with herbs died of kidney failure Friday morning. He was 93 years old.

His son, Assawin Thongprasert, said Sommai was pronounced dead at the Siriraj Hospital at 7:40 am Friday. He was admitted to the hospital on October 7.

Sommai became well-known after he treated and cured some terminal cancer patients with herbs in 1969.

Transport Ministry seeks service improvement

BANGKOK, 11 October 2013 (NNT) –Transport Ministry Permanent Secretary has urged the transport sector to raise its service quality in terms of safety and transparency.


According to Transport Ministry Permanent Secretary Mr. Somchai Siriwattana-choke, he has insisted that every sector and department upgrade the quality of land, water, air , and rail transportation services as regards safety standards. All agencies must also work in the same direction. Personnel must be trained to improve their performance, and every operation must be transparent and straightforward.

To solve the capital's chronic traffic problems, the ministry has joined hands with the Metropolitan Police Bureau and Bangkok Metropolitan Administration, enforcing traffic law and regulation strictly in Bangkok, beginning with 10 pilot routes, which are Lad Prao road, Rama IV road, Sukhumvit road, Ratchadapisek road, Ramkhamhaeng road, Phahonyothin Road including Kaset-Nawamin road, Sathorn road, Ratchadamnoen Avenue, Petchburi Road, and Vibhavadi Rangsit road. Strict measures will be enforced on those roads beginning on 21 October.

As for issues regarding poor affiliated bus services, Bangkok Mass Transit Authority (BMTA) will immediately impose a fine or suspend the service whenever any of the affiliated companies fails to comply with service conditions, said the permanent secretary.

Microsoft to stop support over 5.7 Million Windows XP-based PCs in Thailand from April 8

Chinese Woman Arrested At MBK Mall For Using Fake Credit Cards

Tourist Police were able to arrest a Chinese woman who attempted to buy gold from a goldsmith using a fake credit card.

BANGKOK – October 11, 2013 [PDN]; At the headquarters of the Tourist Police Division, Police announced the arrest of 28 year-old Ms. Moei Rui, a Chinese national. Police were able to seize 7 fake credit cards, 1 fake passport and her wallet. She was arrested at the well-known MBK mall in Bangkok.

4.1-maginutde quake hits Chiang Mai

BANGKOK: -- A quake measuring 4.1 magnitude on Richter scale hit Chiang Mai's Phrao district early Friday, causing widespread panic among local villagers.


It was the biggest tremor ever in the district.

"The shake was so powerful that we felt like a big truck crashed into our building," Phra Khru Preechapiwat said. He is the abbot of Wat Thung Luang and the chair of Phrao District Rescue Centre.

Local residents were seen grouping together to talk about the latest quake.
