You can only get the extension during the last 30 days of your permission to stay. Apart from that I'd say you are in good shape.

What reason did immi. give for refusing to process the extension??

BTW Immi may want to see the 400k come from outside Thailand or a local income of 60k per month (with tax paid), seems to vary from office to office.

Was this just you or are they not doing extensions for everyone?

What is the source of the 400k in your bank accout? If you do not have a work permit it should have come from overseas if it is your money. Perhaps there is no proof of this?

We can't really help if we don't have more information. Did you and wife supply all the required documents as listed here ?

Their reasoning being that I do not have a job,but I can provide Bank statements that show all my money has come from overseas.

Assuming your documents are in order, I'd have another go seeing a different officer, could have been a bad day.

A 'support' extension definately does NOT require you to be working, you just have to show the requisite sum (from overseas) in the bank.

Unless anyone else has a better idea, my suggestion of a second attempt with a different officer (or even at a different office) stands.

If for some unknown reason they want you to get a new visa, don't go to Penang (unless you really only want a single entry visa), KL are still issuing multi non-o visas.

EDIT. One of the required 'documents' is your wife, you must take her with you to immigration.

Thai banks normally use passbooks so are you talking here or banks overseas? The money should be sent here by wire transfer to be safe. Did your account show normal deposit and expense payments during the year?

You have the option to come to Bangkok and apply for your extension if you want to try that. At age 35 it would be expected that you should be employed so if you do not have a travel record that indicates you are working outside Thailand you are probably rather suspect. It is expected that those of working age without local employment would take there wife to there home country to support her. There has been talk of it getting harder for those in your position to obtain extensions so this might be part of it.

I have a Thai account and a barclays account in London. When I run low on money I transfer from London.Like I say,I have a statement from my Thai bank for the last 12 months showing all the money comes from overseas and that I did NOT just use this account for swow.It has been constantly active.

Did you explain your source of income not being from current work? If your UK account is a large savings account that you are removing money from would think that it would have passed muster unless things have changed (which could be). If you have the time I would make a trip with wife to Bangkok and try there before going to Penang or Kuala Lumpur.

Thanks for your advice and suggestions all. However, the missus is so heavilly pregnant now,she cannot travel anywhere and my visa is running out.Ah well, back to Malaysia soon...

In that case Kuala Lumpur might be a better choice as people have reported it being hard to obtain a multi entry visa in Penang recently.
