Two things always say England - Big Ben and pomp. I think you can tell which one is Big Ben.

At one end of The Mall, you have the changing of the Guard - and about 10,000 people watching.

At the other end of The Mall, you have Horse Guards Parade - and probably less than 300 people. If you love beautiful horses, gray uniforms, and some pomp just to remind you that you are in England, this is the better of the two shows.

They do Horse Guards Parade every day unless it is raining. I'm sure you can work it in. And a good overcast day will give you some of the best light you can get for shooting there. You'll love it.

My head office is in London and it's finding the time to do anything other than work is the problem.

Might arrange a 'lunch meeting' with some mates from a consultancy near Tower Bridge. Good excuse.

Back in the early 80's I got lost in Istanbul while on a walkabout with my F2's.

Found myself in the Grand Souk and outta film.

A really neat elderly shopkeeper grabbed me by the hand and led me to a

stall smack in the middle of the carpet sellers area and lo & behold...

Kodachrome 64 & 100 in heaps in a little fridge. I bought the entire lot.

Handshakes & strong lil cups of coffee were in abundance as well as smiles.

Love Istanbul.

It has probably changed a lot since the 80s but it is still one of the truly magical cities of the world. I am looking forward to my next visit there. History, baclava, Turkish Delight, and tea all around.

p.s. And I really miss my F2. In 47 years of shooting, I still regard it as one of the best and most reliable cameras I ever had.
