Hilarious pictures of shoddy workmanship from around the world

Featured Replies

You only had one job to do! Hilarious pictures of shoddy workmanship from around the world
Examples include people painting around objects rather than move them
Pictures show blocked cycle routes, impossible parking spaces and dangerous workmanship

It is the sort of shoddy workmanship that provokes fury and hilarity in equal measure.
Re-defining the phrase work-shy, these pictures show the lengths some people will go to in order to not finish a job properly.
The collection includes examples of people painting around objects instead of moving them, not removing old signs and showing a total lack of common sense as they complete a task.

love the one with the yellow lines, they must have got out of bed the wrong way to do that.555

Reminds me of the white traffic 'lane' lines exiting the toll booths on the 'new' Suk/Pattaya motorway that are painted straight into the concrete central divide of the motorway

I actually like the one of the hole cut into the tree to make room for the electricity cables. It looks beautiful and much better than cutting the tree down altogether.smile.png

You can start with Thailand. The wall between my and my neighbor's apartment is cardboard. When he plays his music, or just giggles talking to his roommate, I can hear it as if it's in my apartment.

Edit: Building built in 2009, kid you not. I asked the bldg manager the other day, "is this a 10-15 y.o. bldg?" He goes "no, 3-4 yrs, why?"....I'm thinking, ok, I hope he didn't lose face.

I guess the part with te shoddy workmanship taken in Thailand only has been left out as it would take up too much server space.

I agree

So as I thought. "Not unique to Thailand. I was starting to have regrets!

Thanks Webfact!

I think so too, as Thailand for sure is the hub for shoddy workmanship.

DEFINITELY should have a permanent page on this forum for local examples !!!!

All and all not as bad as most places, most "errors" "Installations" that do not follow "Best Engineering Practices" or established rules are done out of necessity due to lacl of knowledge or lack of funds.

When is the last time you saw a house fire in Thailand, not many, but all are caused by the fall guy "Electrical Short" which is the easiest to control and the most difficult to prove.

People do what they can to get the job done within thier means, some times shortcuts are necassary.

I am not defending any of this I just understand why it happens either by design or stupidity.

In a country of 70 million most things run rather well, maybe not up to westerners expectations, but they work.

Apparently numerous people get electrocuted from their refrigerators and their showers. When it comes to safety, "most" isn't really enough.

Ah.... Thailand. It is beautiful country filled with wonder and history and beautiful places to explore. A place where you can get lost and forget your worries and just be yourself. Of course that is unless you live here. Between visa runs, mountains of questions about getting that long stay visa, work permits, the fact that as a farang we have no rights, Thais thinking that we actually have no other need for our money except to give it to them, not just getting married to a woman but rather her entire extended family, the stigma held by folks back in our countries who think we are only here for the sex, houses built to 14th Century standards, electrical installations that can easily kill, and people that actually seem not to care about what we want. Then there is the 'loss of face' bit that mandates that you do not tell anyone off for not doing things that you have paid for or just make good sense, the Western standards complaint we all have... oh hell.... the list is too long for this post. Besides, today I have to fight with the local post office about a package that I know is here but as the address is written in English characters, I am sure that no one there can read it... as if the whole world should speak and write in Thai. We have no idea why things seem to work here, no one does not even the Thais. The fact that it does work is a mystery to everyone. But come on... Thailand.... what is the issue or the difficulty in seeing that not everyone is Thai and that Thailand needs us farangs, if only to keep us here so that you have someone to complain about and point fingers at not to mention laugh at....... Ah Thailand!

Here is mine:

What was the Thai electrician thinking ! How are you supposed to change a lightbulb if the fixture is flush with the ceiling ?

^^^^^^^^^^ I think its a GCHQ / NSA listening post easy to tap into the phone lines.
