iphone unlock service at MBK

Can anyone recommend a good shop in MBK that would unlock your iphone safely and if you happen to know how much they charge currently? I’m bringing over my iphone 4 from the states and wondering whether I should get it unlocked in the usa first, right now locally they are raising the fee to around 50 bucks (it used to be 20) so I’m curious to know what’s the up to date figure at MBK.

Thank you much in advance

i paid 500baht in April for an iphone 3 but offered to install apps for another 500. I don't need stupid kids apps or games so i declined the apps. It was just a random store before you get into the main phone section.

thanks for the info. Last month the rate in the US was about the same amount. BUT ever since the launch of the new iphone 5s, the price has rocketed increasing day by day like the stock market and right now it is close to 100 bucks. My guess is that there is a glut of iphone 4s exchanging owners in the upgrade and therefore the demand to unlock has increased ditto the price. So what they charged you in April has probably gone up by now, I'm just curious to know how much.

You might want to post the model, 3GS, 4, 5 the iOS 6, 6.1.3 or 7 and the baseband, which is "Settings > General > About > Modem firmware = xx.xx.xx"

An iphone cant always be jailbroken or unlocked, we are still waiting on a JB for iOS 7, even 6.1.3 hasnt been totally jailbroken.

I was hesitant to JB mine which was a factory unlocked model. I then took the plunge and did it myself, its not hard, you dont need to pay anyone 500B

If you are, all shops in MBK will take your phone and the tech guy will jailbreak with his eyes closed, no need for a recommendation. its not like the old days of flashing out the ROM.

Mine is an iphone 4, the ios is 7.0.4 and I jailbroke it recently when the jailbreak for ios 7 came out. It was a snap. It now has a cydia app on it.

However I'm still unsure about jailbroken vs. unlocked. Are the two interchangeable? FYI after jailbreaking mine I put a different carrier sim card in but the phone did not recognize it. So does that mean that the phone is still locked, albeit jailbroken?

I did indeed use one of those "floating" (reputable) 3rd party providers on the internet last September for my other iphone 4 and it was: cheap (cost me about a us buck) quick (in less than 12 hrs) ie the most painless and successful transaction ever. However, the following month, last October, the price shot up to 20 bucks, I thought it was like playing stock so I waited for it to come back down. It never did, and right now it costs you over a hundred bucks to unlock it!

I believe the hackers at the store have a way to unlock via hardware or a combination of hardware/software, but they have to do a bit of surgery on your phone. I'm in VN right now and haven't got the courage to put my iphone through such procedure here. I was hoping that in Thailand they would do it more "professionally?"

Maybe some kind of Gevey Sim type device? Personally I would just suck it up and go with the factory unlock, that way you don't have to worry about potential damage to your phone, or the thing failing, inevitably at the most inconvenient moment.

There's not really much of a market here for iphone unlocking any more. Most people now buy them from Thai providers and they are obviously factory unlocked out of the box. It's not like back in the day when a lot of the iphone 3s and 3gs were imported from countries where the phone was locked to the provider.

An iPhone can only be unlocked by the carrier, and some carriers refuse to do so. Jailbreaking is different from unlocking and, if done improperly, can turn your iPhone into a brick.

I'm given up on getting the iphone unlocked. Just on a lark last checked with a stand inside Mall Bangkapi : the price 5K baht, the waiting period 10 - 15 days.

I'm just using it as a micro ipad and move on!

I agree with your point that jailbreaking is different from unlocking and that improper methods may brick the phone.Jailbreak and Unlock are two different terms but they are both usually confused. Jailbreaking allows a user to install third party applications, software, themes and removes the limitations that are on the apple device. In short it gives the user the root access to iOS whereas unlocking means the user can switch between network carriers. From my experience unlocking an iPhone using the permanent remote unlock service from Wickedunlock.com is a better option as the phone gets unlocked easily and permanently too.

Contact your phone carrier at home.

Ask the m options for unlock.

I had AT&T in USA.

I was told if my 2-year contract was finished then I could request a factory unlock for free from AT&T.

I had three months left on my contact so I paid a small early termination fee (its pro-rated by months remaining on contract).

After the ETFee was paid then I was officially out of my contract and AT&T initiated the unlock process.

I recall it took about 3 days for the process to work.
