No more Plasma from Panasonic

Featured Replies

Panasonic has officially confirmed the end of its plasma TV business,

with production of Panasonic plasma display panels to cease in December 2013.

I guess the writing was on wall, as they say.

Next year, the high-end and mid-end that Panasonic's awesome VT, GT and ST series has dominated for the past 3 years or so, has to now become 4K. If using their current plasma tech that would mean TV's that use over 1,000 watts - maybe as high as 1,500 watts if they were to stitch together 4x 42" sets to make a 4K 84" inch like LG and Sony, which is just way too much power consumption (A current 65" VT/GT/ST uses 500w).

I wonder if the current gen will become as iconic as the Kuro's, which are way more popular/desired post-production than they were when they were still being produced? :) Maybe... until OLED becomes more mainstream ;)
