Importing Car From Uk To Thailand

Featured Replies

I own a lovely little sports car in the Uk but will shortly be returning to Thailand (lived there before for many a year)

What I would like to ask is if anyone knows of the approximate cost of importing a 2nd hand car in a container from the UK via a cargo ship.

Thank You

Clive,

I would be more concerned on the tax.......

I have a 1973 Datsun 240Z, which I would love to bring over here, but the tax is 100% of bluebook value or around $20,000 + shipping.

this question has been asked many times before.

the answer is always the same.

dont even consider it.

it will end in tears , you will probably never see your car again , it will cost you much more than the car is worth , you may even have to bid for your own car when the customs department put it up for sale at their regularly held auctions.

unless you have some very good connections with the customs department sell your car before you come here , or if you have some unexplained emotional attraction to this machine , then put it in storage until you get back.

Can we pin a "DONT DO IT" notice in the motor forum or something. It seems the search function is not working and this question comes up every day. Perhaps TukTukMike could pen a three act tragedy on the foibles of this idea for permanent enshirement in the motor forum.
