Chicog Posted November 28, 2013 Posted November 28, 2013 Thursday, November 28th 2013 05:16 Six people have been arrested on suspicion of fixing British football matches, including at least three current footballers. Police are investigating an Asian betting syndicate, with the National Crime Agency arresting the six men in the last two days. One of the people arrested is understood to be a former Premier League footballer who now works as an agent. The investigation follows an undercover investigation by the Daily Telegraph newspaper, which recorded one alleged fixer offering to rig two games. "These games, we understand, are outside the Premier League and outside the Football League, so right down in the lower leagues," says Sky News Sports Correspondent Paul Kelso. http://www.juicefm.com/news/local/six-arrested-over-alleged-match-fixing-in-britain/?/

Chicog Posted December 8, 2013 Author Posted December 8, 2013 Match-Fixing Claims: Police Launch New Probe Football Match-Fixing Claims Last Updated: 6:42AM 08/12/2013 Police have confirmed to Sky News they have opened a new investigation into match-fixing allegations. The National Crime Agency said it is looking at claims passed to them by the Sun on Sunday. The newspaper alleges it has evidence of a player saying he could arrange a yellow card booking in the Championship League in exchange for thousands of pounds. If it's seeping into the Championship that definitely needs rooting out. http://m.sky.com/skynews/article/1179356
Chicog Posted December 9, 2013 Author Posted December 9, 2013 Appears to be turning into a can of worms.... 9 December 2013 GMT: 12:31 English match-fixing now hits higher up the leagues with 6 more arrests Published on Monday, 09 December 2013 11:56By Andrew WarshawDecember 8 - A one-time English Premier League footballer and Nigerian international has admitted being involved in spot-fixing in a second damaging newspaper sting that has led to six people being detained and has once again seriously undermined the reputation and credibility of English football. Just over a week after the Daily Telegraphuncovered a scam that focussed on lower-league players, leading to an investigation by the National Crime Agency, former Portsmouth defender Sam Sodje (pictured) told an undercover reporter he was another culprit of the global matchfixing epidemic.Sodje was filmed by the Sun on Sunday describing how he punched an opponent in a League One fixture - the third tier of English football - to deliberately get a red card in exchange for £70,000 while playing for Portsmouth, the last club of his career.According to the paper, Sodje, who once played in the Premier League for Reading and has won four caps for Nigeria, allegedly also boasted he had arranged for a fellow professional in the Championship, the second tier of the English game, to get a yellow card in return for tens of thousands of pounds, and that he could even rig top-flight fixtures.
