CAPO declares protest areas unsafe

BANGKOK, 30 November 2013 (NNT) - The Center for Administration of Peace and Order (CAPO) has detained a man who carried a weapon into the protest areas, and discouraged the protesters from surrounding government offices.

CAPO Spokesman Pol.Maj.Gen. Piya Uthayo said officers from the Nang Leong police stations had arrested Ek Thaothong and seized his gun in one of the protest areas. The arrest showed that the places were not safe, the officials said.

The spokesman therefore suggested the protesters should be careful and exercise discretion when listening to others about the ongoing political situation. Pol.Maj.Gen. Piya confirmed the police would do their best in preventing the crowds from breaking into important government agencies.

Civil servants could still provided normal services, albeit slowly, Pol.Gen. Pracha said.

The Deputy Minister confirmed the government was always ready to negotiate with protest leader Suthep Thuagsuban to find solutions to the political deadlock together. However, the protesters’ demands must conform to the Constitution, he said.

Meanwhile, Commissioner-General of the Royal Thai Police Pol.Gen. Adul Saengsingkeo reiterated that the police would not use force to crack down on the protests as rumored. The police had the duty to protect government offices and their operations to tackle chaos would be in accordance with international standards.
