Suthep: wrong man at the right time?
Veena Thoopkrajae

BANGKOK: -- It's easier to say why Suthep shouldn't be leading the anti-government campaign than why he should be. As a leader he ends up lacking. He was at the centre of a major political scandal almost two decades ago, and to this day approximately half the country holds him responsible for the violent crackdown on the red-shirt uprising in 2010.

Amnat Charoen to declare 7 districts cold spell disaster zones

BANGKOK, 7 December 2013 (NNT) – Amnat Charoen Province is set to declare its 7 districts cold spell disaster zones after the temperature has dropped to 15-16 degree Celsius.

The temperature in Amnat Charoen has dropped to 15-16 degrees Celsius, causing a number of locals to come down with respiratory diseases. To make matters worse, a lot of people living in the countryside are poor and in need of winter clothing and blankets. The provincial governor is, therefore, seeking a budget for the purchase of blankets for those people. The governor is also keen on declaring 7 districts of Amnat Charoen cold spell disaster zones.

Some locals in Amnat Charoen have been seen outside their homes in the morning and the evening making bonfires to keep themselves warm, while some people gather outside to do aerobic exercises.

In the meantime, local doctors have issued warnings, urging those who buy used clothes to boil them for 5-10 minutes before wearing them in order to prevent themselves from catching contagious diseases that might come with the clothes.

Singapore lifts ban on Thai chicken

BANGKOK, 7 December 2013 (NNT) – Singapore, after 9 years, has decided to lift the ban of Thai chicken imports allowing Thai frozen chicken into the country once again.

According to the Commerce Ministry, Singapore’s Ministry of Trade and Industry has decided to lift the suspension of Thai chicken, after banning it 9 years ago following the deadly avian flu outbreak. Singapore is a potential market for Thailand as it imports 250 million US dollars worth of frozen chicken a year.

The cancellation of Thai chicken ban by Singapore creates good image for Thai chicken as the move could attract other importers as well.

The Commerce Minister however said Thai chicken exporters could face a fierce competition in the world market, while urging them to focus more on processed chicken products.
