Where can I buy kitchenware, crockery, sheets and towels please?

Featured Replies

To move into my newly bought condo, I need to buy an electric cooker, pots and pans, crockery, sheets and towels, and the like. I don’t want to buy branded equipment, just the normal everyday stuff. I went to the department store at Central Shopping Mall and everything seems branded and expensive. Any suggestions please? Thanks.

Tesco - Lotus

Makro

Tesco - Lotus

Makro

.....Big C

Any supermarket!

Everything is branded in Thailand. Better to buy good names like Philips, etc. or the other cheap Chinese junk will fall apart in no time. Central is the only place to buy [particularly] sheets and towels that will last for many years. If you go the cheap route you will end up replacing everything in no time. Tesco, Big C, Makro are O.K. for a lot of things but not bed linens.

Well, maybe the OP is planning to stay here for just a year or so, in which case the Chinese stuff is OK. But otherwise, I'd echo the posts to stay away from Chinese branded merchandise for the categories listed by the OP and even stay away from Thai brands of electrical appliances. We've learned our lessons with electrical appliances, even small appliances like rice cookers, hot water pots, microwaves, etc, and now buy big name brands. Thai-produced, high-quality sheets, towels. pots, pans, dishes, crockery and cutlery are great and will last for years and Central Dept store is a great place to find those.

Thais are really great at manufacturing plastic household products. Chiang Mai Plastic in Warorot Market is the place to go for all your plastic housewear needs like hangers, storage containers, trash cans, pails, all manner of baskets, etc. You'll find yourself using products from Chiang Mai Plastic for household purposes you never thought possible. (At least I do -- products from there really help to stretch the storage space in a small-ish condo)

Cannot agree more. You will not save going the cheap route, op, and would likely replace things several times over the lifespan of a decent western brand. Not just things with moving parts, everything, read EVERYTHING, falls apart here. Stick with Central, Index, Rimping, avoid Tesco, Big C, Makro!

If you ever come down to BKK then take a trip to Ikea and pick up some of this stuff. The selection is a little bit better than some of the other places IMO.

I recommend you check out Baan and Beyond behind Airport Central mall.

It has everything you need to set up a house from linens to housewares to kitchen supplies -- and the prices are good.

I also find good sale items on household goods at Robinson's inside Airport Central mall. It is hit or miss on whether what I'm looking for is a sale item, but when it is, the sale prices can be very good.

I didn't realise there was a "used" site here. Will have to look for it. If used-ware is in good condition, that will do too.

Have not been to Airport Central yet. Will check this Baan and Beyond behind Airport Central mall out soon. Thanks.
