Arab Spring

Featured Replies

I remember telling the wife about the Prague spring whilst we spent our honeymoon there, whilst laughingly referring to a spring sticking through our hotel bed as the Prague spring. Spring of course is the new shoots of freedom and self determination, following the winter of ideological totalitarian rule, all the more risible referring to the Arab spring with the same expectations - surprises indeed!

The Royal families or indeed military despot regimes shared one thing in common; they kept the religious totalitarians in check, which put at least some damper on persecution of infidels, or Muslims of minority sects. It therefore came as no surprise whatsoever that given the opportunity persecution of these minorities, not to mention women rocketed.

I think the Arab spring will be remembered in history as the stepping up of a Sunni versus Shiite religious war, with any hapless bystanders copping stray punches from either of the protagonists, much in the same way as would happen to anyone intervening in a domestic dispute outside a Liverpool nightclub at kicking out time.

I assume that your comment indicates that the current outcome of the Arab Spring was entirely predictable.

I tend to agree with you, but I expected Gaddafi to survive. I am sure that he would have done so if the UK and France had not so strongly supported the Islamists.

And all because Gaddafi funded the Sarkozy presidential campaign, but after his election Sarkozy wouldn't honour whatever quid-pro-quo Gaddafi had got out of him. The Poison Dwarf is evil, Camoron just gullible. (And was probably offered a night with Carla to seal the deal).
