Israeli suspected of shoplifting at Pattaya Shopping Mall

israel-1.jpg

PATTAYA: -- On Monday evening Pattaya Police were called to the second floor of Mike Shopping Mall in South Pattaya after security guards had detained a 56 year old Israeli accused of stealing a woolen hat.

As Police arrived they realized the suspect was extremely uncooperative and appeared to be resisting efforts by the Security Guards to detain the man, later named as Mr. Daniel Mesholam. He continued to resist arrest when Police took the suspect to Pattaya Police Station along with the incriminating evidence in the form of a woolen hat worth 690 Baht.

According to the shop assistant, Khun Sompong aged 52, Mr. Mesholam purchased another hat worth 790 Baht. As the assistant went to the cashier to complete the sale, Mr. Mesholam was left alone, during which time, he is suspected of stealing the other hat. Khun Sompong’s suspicions were aroused when Mr. Mesholam ran out of the shop as soon as he received the change from his purchase.

Good the guy was not Russian , otherwise the Russian bashing would be extreme here ...... All this for just a hat ? the shop owner should have asked the Israeli guy to pay for the hat instead of involving the police for so little.

Retail businesses often display signs saying shoplifters / thieves will be prosecuted. Why do you think they do this ?

You introduce Russians and then defend them - when the post has nothing to do with that nationality and no one has bashed them. Is this your fixation?

Those establishments that implement such a policy usually do so only on the basis that the perpetrator pays a price that would be considered a huge penalty. And quite rightly so!

Something like 10 times the price would be in order

How many Russians have become Israelis in recent years? Many.

Finally some real news!

At first it was pretty exciting to read about all these shoplifting stories here on TV.

But now that's surpassed by stories of suspected shoplifting...

Can't wait to hear about rumors and hearsay on alleged, suspected maybe shoplifting in the near future, as an encore!

Perhaps his running away and cheery disposition made that somewhat difficult. I agree the price was "little", but I would be at a loss to set the price that would result in the police being called.

It's a wee bit of money, unless you are the person experiencing the loss.

An Israeli bashing post has been deleted, as an answer.

This is a rule that is frequently disregarded on Thai Visa. Guess the moderators can't catch them all.

The suspect was born in Israel. A Sabra. You can see in his passport. thumbsup.gif

We get to hear the beginning of these stories (and the other example involving the goat's cheese rolleyes.gif ) but we never get to hear the outcome and what happens after ……….

I'm just curious as to how difficult the BIB make things for these fellows after they have been nabbed? For example I'm sure the BIB would want to see their actual passports for processing forms etc after they have been charged.

So if these people are not carrying their actual passports and have copies what happens ? If they are in a safe somewhere for example in their rooms who goes to get them ? And what happens to all your other valuables and other assets after you are in the criminal justice system?

Presumably it wouldn't be like the West where you would be released on bail ?

Please note the use of the word 'Suspected" here before burning up the keyboard with your high court verdicts on this bloke ventmongers......

Heavy Drinker's Fingerpoint rating: 4/10 Verdict:rather feeble, lacking conviction.....must do better next time Khun Sompong....

I thought all, (perhaps0, wrong doers were suspects until a judge directs guilt or not guilty......coffee1.gif

He was

  1. In possession of something he had not paid for
  2. running away from the scene

I don't think you need a judge to confirm he is guilty?unsure.png

Be careful...remember the other rule about not discussing moderation on the forum! Remember...the mods and the NSA are watching you :)
