Simple really,

How do you clear what you have searched for on google?

Every time I click on the bar to write something it brings up past searches and is really doing my head in.

Any ideas what I may be doing wrong?

My apologies, I misunderstood your original question. My response was referring to the Google Search bar at the top of Firefox which is where I enter my queries rather from the Google window.
