Rather vague question - photographing SEA, based in CM

I am a photographer and I'm considering spending a few months in SEA, basing myself in CM and traveling to Laos, Cambodia, Myanmar and Vietnam, specifically to take pictures. I am aware of the 30 day visa waiver and the sub-30 day visas for the other countries. My initial plan is to fly into the other countries, come back to CM to rest and work on pictures, then fly out again, alternating multi-week periods in/out.

I don't care for BKK as much and I had hoped to find an area with decent English language bookstores and a good ex-pat community to have a drink with - and my one trip to CM was fun.

Can you project any problems with using CM as a base?

Can I get an apartment for long-term without a long term visa or would short term apts be better?

TIA,

Lew

i'm a somewhat retired photographer here in CM. i think it's a good base for your needs. centrally located, airport, camera stores, electronic shops, can drive to a few other countries from here and you lease as long of as you have money to pay.
