How much are Thai's paid in Bangkok ?

I'm always wondering when I leave a tip just how much the amount means to the workers. Just for my interest could anyone tell me how much people in a few sample occupations get paid and how much they get to take home?

For example:

How much does a worker at Starbucks, a worker at a shop in the mall get?

How much might a newly hired policeman get paid (not counting any additional tips he might get).

If you take a look at the job offers at some shops (sales staff), they will start with 12K and maybe with some OT and extras they might reach the 15 to 20K later on.

So a 40-50B tip is actually a nice addon to the daily wage, will be enough for a typical Thai meal for example.

Office can be 20-30K for normal staff, i think the same will be for Government officials but a lot more benefits?

I know of a Thai Doorman earning 6k a month, but it is not full time work (almost though)..

Lets be real though... We have all read the Cost Of Living threads here on TV...

Anyone living in BKK must be earning 150,000 a month to survive... Its apparently impossible for some not too :-/

Not enough, in fact it's never enough.

Thailand and Australia have something in common.

We must also add the UK in that list!

Gotta love this forulm someone ask a very simple question, gets all type of answers from "it depends" to plain stupidity.

If you have nothign to say, have you considered not saying anything ?

And your answer to the Op's question was to be found where in your post?whistling.gif

A barista at Starbuck makes 15-18k a month!coffee1.gif

You decide what to pay for good service. probably 10-15% of the bill would be fair.

Please tell me where the topic is "tipping amount" or has anyione mentioned tipping ?

Never let thread reading get in between your writing intentions!

Yes, it's the very first sentence of the OP.

Apologies then, that also seems a great recurring topic for stupidity and differering opinions.

Normal wage for warehouse worker at a company I am very familiar with is 9000 TB per month. Store sales persons get 10-15K month plus commission. Drivers get 6-10k per month.

if you believe the uk government then £24.5k a year is a livable income. Reality would be closer to your figure of £40k either as a single or combined figure.

As for tipping the general rule is 10% of the bill. If in the UK the service is good I'd normally tip a couple of quid. May not seem much but don't forget if everyone does it then it soon adds up. Plus it's not taxed.

How much are they paid.Depends on what your talking about, short time or long time.

The challenge with any question on TVF is to get a serious, sober reply from the readers.

Based on some "Help Wanted" ads I saw:

Tesco Lotus:

Cashier / organize the shelves / other simple jobs = 8,500 - 10,000 baht per month for 48 hours per week

A restaurant in Central near Chitlom BTS:

Waiters / cashiers / shift manager = 11,000 - 16,000

A restaurant in Chaeng Wattana area:

Chef / waiters / dish washers / shift manager / etc = 12,000 - 19,000

Chester's Grill:

Service / cashiers / shift manager = 8,000 - 12,000

Thank you for the post. It is indeed refreshing to read a reply that is on spot and provides some good information.

My girlfriend is a university student, and works part time in a juice bar in a shopping mall. They pay her 50 baht per hour.

I don't know if full time staff get paid a higher rate. I hope so.

Insanely low wages. If you consider one single juice sells for 150 baht... They can cover the entire staffing costs (3 people) with 1 sale per hour.

So now we have the structure, now lets look at the percentages. In the UK i would say the wage bill of most small to mid sized business can range from 20 to 40% of Gross income. The same in Thailand is more like 3 to 8%. Then you add in the overheads ie tax, insurance etc etc and here you are basically left with a country full of greedy, grabbing, ignorant self centered extremists bent on self indulgence and personal gain.

In our office, the lowest starting salary was 25K for a secretary or PA. The average staff member was on 50-70K. Executives and senior management salaries ranged from 100-180K. Very top guys on 300-500K.

Cleaners, drivers and security could have been on less but they were subcontracted.
