Ubon Hash House Harriers Run No 64 - Saturday 11th January - Suan Loong Daeng Farmstay

Yes its that time of year again when Ubon Hash "goes out-station" to the Cambodian border in lower Ubon province. Once again we have kindly been invited to Suan Loong Daeng Farm Stay, Nok and 'Gettomaster' Trond's place. If you have not been to Suan Loong Daeng farmstay before then you should know that a hash, followed by a party and a night's stay, makes for a very pleasurable mini-break. Check out the location on this website www.suanloongdaengfarmstay.com

The run/walk will start at 3pm prompt on the second Saturday in January, so if you want to have a relaxed start and give yourself some time to check into your accommodation then it would be a good idea to aim to get there by somewhat earlier. It should take about 90 minutes to drive from downtown Ubon, unless you are Ghettomaster-like and can do it in 60 minutes.

There are rooms available at the farmstay, for those that get their bookings in quickly. Accommodation prices are also on the farmstay's website. Those who miss the cut can stay at a local resort at about 500ish baht. If you need a lift from/to Ubon e-mail me and I will try to sort something out. However, you must contact Trond directly to book accommodation at the farmstay or locally; if you do not have his e-mail or facebook address use the contact details on the farmstay's website, or contact me (PM if looking at this on Thaivisa.com) and I will put you in touch.

After the run we will have the usual circle (normal hash fees apply, normal free beer). Then the partying begins. There will be some free food; the excellent kitchen will otherwise be open for paid-for food in the evening and breakfast. Drinks, at reasonable prices, are to be paid for. Pool - of both varieties (balls on the table and balls in the water:-)), so remember to bring your swimming costume if you want to cool off! Dancing is free. Those of you who can manage hangover breakfasts will know that the choices are really good.

Directions from Ubon: take highway 24 to Det Udom then 2171 to Nam Yuen. At Nam Yuen turn right (westwards) along highway 2248. The farmstay is 13 kilometres from that junction on the southern (left side) of the 2248.
From Kantharalak: take highway 221 south and turn left (eastwards) along 2248. The farmstay is 20 kilometres from that junction on the southern (right side) of the 2248.
A great event - be there!

Hashing is social running and there have been hash clubs all over the world since its 1930s origins in Kuala Lumpur. The running bit is not taken seriously and beer is drunk to oil the social side. Ubon Hash, in line with the Ubon environment is laid back and only a few experienced hashers and wanabee enthusiasts put in a few spurts of running. The rest walk. Non-running social members who like to drink beer rather than take any exercise are welcome provided they pay the hash fee and don't drink all the beer while the rest of us are out on trail!

A trail is laid, typically in white powder like flower/chalk and the pack has to find the trail, which keeps the front runners busy while the walkers catch up. After the run the beer ice-boxes are opened and the socialising begins. We usually go back for some more beer and maybe some food around town in the early evening, and some more beer later in the evening, but that is entirely optional on your part! {the latter bit is modified of course when we are out-stationed, when anything goes}.

Don't be a stay at home wuss - get out there with us and discover the sides of Ubon you would not normally uncover. It's dead cheap (100B) for your first run and inexpensive (200B) thereafter; even cheaper for Thais - and that includes free beer after, and sometimes during, the run.

Maybe my calendar is wrong sad.png

But Happy Pimai coffee1.gif

Hopefully it's the 11th, I'll be back home then after toiling in the desert; best Hash venue despite the strange guy that wanders around with a horned helmet and a double-edged axe.

Hello Flash Git,

my girlfiend and i ran with you guys about 2 years ago (she is from Ubon) and we are returning in 2 weeks time for a wedding on Jan 25th with about 20 hashers from Songkhla, i am wondering if Ubon hash would be interested or willing to hold a special run for us on the Saturday afternoon of Jan 25th. I realise that this is very short notice, but will appreciate your reply.

Alternatively, we will be staying at the Pathumwan Hotel, which are the hash bar/s that we could visit with?

thanks, Softcock

I remember it well Softcock - 7th April 2012! Are you renaming Temporary Relief as Permanent Relief thenbiggrin.png . If so, many congrats!

Yes it is late notice and I don't know how many of out lot will turn out .... but I certainly will and will be delighted to set you a trail and run the beer stop/bar stop and beers - either styled as an Ubon Hash or a Songkhla away hash with visiting hare (/RA/GM whatever you want). I'm at your command and flexible!

We can of course give ideas for bars/restaurants. See you've chosen to stay in the massage parlour of most infamous connection in Thailand then! Phatumrat has Long Beach below it, which is notable for having been Pol Pot's provider of leisurable moments of choice when he was thrown out of Cambodia.

We can discuss further by PM or phone - PM me your details

Haven't heard from you Softcock. Are we still on for Jan 25th? I need to notify fellow Ubon hashers. What time do you want to start the run? Do you want it to start from the Pathumrat or do you guys have/need transport?

You can send a Personal Message (pm) by replying to this or clicking on my name/avatar in Thai Visa and clicking on the 'send message' button.
