Places to run

Featured Replies

G'day

I am looking for recommendations on where to run (1/2 to 1 hour). I have these places in mind:

  1. Huay Tung Tao (plus the free track outside)
  2. CMU grounds by the Canal Road

The lake seems a little "dangerous" for a lady especially along the quieter stretches. At the CMU, it's good when there's a lot of people around.

What about the 700 year stadium or maybe around the new convention center?

thanks

Matt

You're a lady called Matt?

Huay Tung Tao feels pretty safe to me, for both men and women (or hybrids).

just avoid wearing yellow and carrying a whistle..................or you could end up running very fast ....smile.png

No, but I am running with one. We run at different speeds.

Seriously though, I've never felt HTT to be unsafe.

HTT at dusk has some serious mosquitos and bats flying around.

and common to see snakes crossing the road to go into the water on the west side of the lake.

Best place to run is the Huay Tung Tao free track. I've been going there for years and I often see women jogging alone there. It's as safe as safe can be. Just watch out for the occasional speeding bike.Pleasant surroundings.

Around HTT lake is fine with a partner or two. I've never seen women jogging alone there. There are deserted stretches of road.

The problem with running at CMU is the presence of some nasty-looking dogs on the loose adjacent to the soccer field, near Huay Kaew road. That's why I don't walk or run there anymore.

The 700 stadium is also a good place to run. Their jogging track was recently renovated. I prefer HTT because there's more trees and less concrete.

I don't know about the convention centre.

I was actually referring to the CMU grounds further down the canal road. It is a huge ground, houses some of the labs, and there is a backroad to the Night Safari. It's a great big place to run.

The Agro center on Canal Road is good. For long runs though, Ob Khan national park would be best. Also on the Canal Road. 6.2k South Of the Samoeng Road intersection. Just drive all the way towards the end of the road. Hundreds of trails to choose from. Past Ob Khan, further along Canal Road, you can turn right on any soi till it ends and find trail. Bring a compass or GPS though. You will get lost for sure.

If you like track running you can use the chang puak municipal stadium, just 5 minutes walk from the moat.

Or you can run around it as many do every evening

I ran up doi suthep about three times, never down. each time, within a few minutes, someone would pick me up and drive me to the zoo (bottom of hill). oh, i did lock my bike there and ride home. sometimes you get a little exhaust smell, so pick the time wisely.

I also recommend 700 year old stadium and Huay Tung Tao. If it's slow jogging, then most Moo bahns are good.
